Hi Guys,

Ive been rebuilding this 96 since the car was kindly given as a wedding present a couple of years ago.

Its nearing getting ready for the road and though it might be nice to start getting some pics uploaded.

We wanted it to have a bit more va va voom than standard but still a nice road spec.

Engine wise

Its a rebuild 1710 with kent cam, std valves with a bit of porting and deshrouding, ct manifold with twin 40 Jenvey throttle bodies and a DTA s40 ECU

The tank has been modified to fit an internal swirl pot and HP fuel pump.

Half a coil has been removed from the springs and twin adjustable AVO are on order

The floor was pretty rotten:

Welding was done by Mark at MSA autobodies in Summer Bridge not far from Harrogate

Love this - this has got to be the future. Seems to me to be a really nice modification that doesn't take anything away from the character of the car.

Cheers

I had a good look at this and the engineering involved was fantastic..a real interesting bit of work.

Nice work, think you might end up with really good economy once youve finished tuning, if you can lay off the gas that is ;)

Will be interesting to see what mpg - it's not like webers in that we can lean it off on partial throttle for cruising. Also its ignition curve is more optimised.

It did 70 miles then 3 hours of rolling tuning and then drove back for 70 miles and used a total of £40 of super unleaded at 1,42 a litre

Not done a proper run yet to test and its still a bit new so the throttles getting used!

It would be good to see a picture of the set up now that it's all finished. Air filters? Socks? I suspect you might be thinking of making the control mounts look a bit more OEM once it's all proven?

What is the MPG? I would have thought 25 at best and would'nt like to think at worst! Must be great fun to drive. Enjoy it.

Thanks for the heads up! Really enjoying using her at long last!

118 BHP? It must go like stink.....!!!

A word of advice: don't floor it in first gear - on tarmac at any rate! Wait until you're in second. Even on a mildly tuned engine, full throttle in first on a grippy surface will quickly knacker the gearbox! (This is the Gospel according to Chris Partington!)

;)

Rolling roaded yesterday

Current engine spec - for a "road" not race car

1700 crank
90.8 mm pinto pistons
v6 rods
mild porting (mainly exhaust to match jetex)
c&t manifold
jenvey 40's
dta s40
Kent fast road cam

Manages peak torque of 90LBF at 3500 and pretty much holdS this to 4500. It makes 90 bhp by 3500 raising steadily to the 118bhp peak power at the crank at 4500 which is level until 6500.

Needs a little more on road tinkering of the low load fueling but drives really really nice. Im really happy with outcome - especially as the drivability is so great.

Quite quiet on just running around but great rally car induction roar on wot!
