Please can you help me.
If I fit 91 mm pinto HC pistons and a 1700 crank ,am I right in thinking I use 1500 con rods , and I don’t need to adjust the piston height or the block height.
Roughly what cc will I run.
In
Many thanks Joe

I really enjoy this forum.

Yes you can use pinto pistons with a 1700 crank and standard 1500 conrods. The pinto pistons, like the 1700 pistons, have a shorter side skirt than the 1500 pistons, which is why you can't use 1500 pistons with a 1700 crank as the corned will hit the skirt. Pinto pistons are easy to get and therefore quite cheap and come ia a selection of sizes and tend to be high compression. A lot of the 1700 pistons you can get are the low compression type. Burtons can give advise.

I did not need to skim the pinto pistons when I built my 1740 engine

90mm. Download the factory workshop manual from my website if you don't have it, all engine specs are in section 0: http://www.saabv4.com/index.php/saab-factory-manuals/saab-v4-factory-workshop-manual-english/

There shouldn't be as long as the pistons and cylinder walls are in good condition (assuming you're using std diameter pistons in std diameter bores).

If I use 1700 pistons there’s no need for any machining.

I've only ever used 2nd hand 1700 pistons. The need for bigger diameter pistons depends on what you want from the engine.

Mille.
What piston would you use ? And if I’m going to have to have a Rebore would you go bigger. Many thanks Joe

Hi Joe, been a while! All con rods are the same length (130.5mm from memory), V6 ones too. A 1.7 crank with 91mm HC pistons will result in 1740cc. I've never used Pinto pistons, but I know Beta had to have his pistons machined because they protruded above the deck.
