...because I was naughty and breached their rules by writing "sh¡t" (and probably because they dislike the mild contempt I have for their moderation style: http://www.uksaabs.co.uk/UKS/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=196808)

I've been a fairly happy member of the UKS community for well over a decade, so I'm sorry to leave. It's been a useful forum, with a generally friendly and helpful membership. I'm sorry to conclude the forum is currently moderated by a bunch of humourless members of the law and order fraternity.

Here's the whole story if you care:

I'm afraid I don't understand the concept of a "family friendly" forum, probably because all my family can swear like sailors and have always done so when appropriate. What is appropriate is in the eye of the beholder I suppose.

Surprised you have put the details on this forum, to what end, thought it would be private business for both parties!

One of the strengths of UKSAABs is that it is a family forum... that makes it a PITA to moderate over other forums... easier to nip things in the bud for the mods, easier for all if folks tow the line, especially after a warning, it's not hard to write a sentence without swearing. Bottom line is it's shame you got kicked off Melle, knowledge is dieing quick enough without it being restricted. It's a loss to you and UKSAAB members. Did I swear back then

I got a temporary ban after I went public because they switched off PMs. I then asked them do delete my account and all my posts, because I thought the whole thing was becoming a bit stupid. Their reply was a permanent ban, but they refused to delete my posts, of course referring to their rules and regulations. I've asked them to at least change my former user name to something neutral and remove all links to my website, which I was told they don't need to do under GDPR (I never mentioned GDPR). They finally promised they'll consider it "as a group", but I'm afraid I've pissed some of them off too much to grant me a last little favour...

Their values are clearly different to mine, so I guess it had to end at some point. It's a shame, but no hard feelings on my part, it is what it is.

Sorry to read about this, Melle.
Never heard about UKSaabs before but it seems that:
1: Some people are really good at loosing time.
2: Some people are really good at taking the fun out of what is and must stay a friendly hobby.
On the other hand, displeasing to ... (write down the name you want here, I don't want to be banned yet!) has always been one my dearest prerogatives, and it might be just the same for you.
BTW, my 96 is back on the road and passed its MOT. I'll try to post some pictures on Monday.
Happy and sunny weekend to everyone.

What did you expect?

You dont tell the police you've committed a crime.

They are a private members club. I dont know any other club that would let a member boast about breaking the rules without repercussions. If you'd just sucked it down then you'd have probably only had a temp ban. Making it public only antagonises them further.

On the flip side, how were you supposed to accept it privately when they'd removed your PM function? Seems like that was a little premature.

I personally thank you for all of your freely shared expertise and past assistance.
Your continuing presence will undoubtedly be appreciated by many.

A bit sad Melle, after all you gave to the forum.
It seems those moderators have very thin skin.

The good thing is that we'll have you 100% here ;-)

ITs a fine line for moderators but it seems they are a little zealous in this. I have some basic swear redaction on this site (not very good) as early days I had loads of spammers selling shall we say adult content and I could not remove them fast enough! Anyway, you are a very helpful and knowledgeable member of this forum so their loss.....

I personally see no harm whatsoever in swearing, and I think swear filters are ludicrous. However, I happily except some people are easily offended and need their tender souls protected. I therefore try and use expletives only functionally (to loosen bolts, to piss off people who annoy me, etc) and otherwise refrain from swearing publicly.

EXPLETIVE REDACTED mate. You'll just have to get more creative in this parish

Sorry to hear you've had the UKS boot, Melle; I would echo the sentiments of others about your valued contribution. Glad to hear you're going to try to keep the mischief in check here.

My old Grannie used to have a saying that "Rules are for the guidance of wise men and the blind obedience of fools"; sadly there seem to be rather more fools about than wise men !

bit of a d*ck move on their part (see what I did there!) - your input and resources are fantastically valuable in the SAAB community and you genuinely like to help people, rare quality these days - I agree with RhysN and Andy - their loss

PS, if the moderators here have the same policy on use of punctuation replacing characters in swear words I was only joking and it won't happen again! (and the original word I was trying to spell was duck)

I promise I'll try and behave here.

Yeah, I'm with Rhys on this. Your amazing contributions, will be a huge loss to UKSAABS.

Well, I clearly misjudged their sense of humour, or the lack thereof.

I asked them to remove all my posts, but they refuse to do that because they claim they're the intellectual property of UKSaabs. I guess I should've read the small print before signing up... If you come across any post on UKS that can be used to identify me, please report it to the UKSaabs mods, as I can no longer do that myself.
