Betsy67 | Posted - 22 Mar 2020 : 18:08:35 The time has arrived- well it’s already passed! Moved Betsy into the garage last weekend, probably not to see daylight again for quite some time. Nearside door was removed as it was rather crusty at the bottom. Wasting no time ( with a bit of planning) the bottom was removed of both inner and outer sections. I am getting some steel cut and pressed at work for the replacements. It’s not until you get the door off, chopped and on a flat surface that you realise what a complex shape the door actually is, how it curves front to back and bottom to top. It also tapers inwards to the rear. The bottom outer panel is also slightly convex. A mighty challenge to my mediocre fabbing skills - lets see what happens
Also put the sander to some use - I did say it might be in there a while. |

Betsy67 | Posted - 24 Mar 2020 : 12:54:56 Will let you know how I get on Paul. Don't think there will be any travelling for some time to come as yet?
Might not be able to get it 'factory' on the inside but at least it will be good metal. |
V4saab1966 | Posted - 24 Mar 2020 : 01:29:46 I’ve got a couple off battered doors the bottoms are good though, I’ve a couple of good doors as well but you can not really travel at the moment, however parts needed to repair your Classic are a necessity !!! |
Betsy67 | Posted - 23 Mar 2020 : 12:58:58 I reckon there will be quite a few on and offs during the process. Faced with this it's easy to see why people choose classics with readily available repair panels within 24 hrs postage time. Hoping my 'sanding pads' arrive before the UK shuts down ! |
melle | Posted - 22 Mar 2020 : 20:50:10 Yes, doors are fun! Final fettling needs to be done with the door installed in my experience.
