Hi guys. Finding myself considering classic Saab ownership again...

I’ve had two V4s, a 96 in the 90s, a 95 about 5 years ago that I think is still on the forum.

Values seem to have risen in the past 5 years but with classic prices all over the place it’s hard to tell. What’s a realistic price to pay for a scruffy, solid, usable V4?

And what is the parts situation like these days?

Anyone got anything for sale?

Cheers,
Tom.

I'm only progressing it because nobody has shown any interest, and my storage spot will disappear soon. As time goes by it will only get more expensive as I buy more stuff.

Rhys, glad to hear it's back on the road (ish). I may get in touch if and when I'm feeling a bit more flush... by then you'll probably have completely restored it. :)

Hi Rhys
I’ve got a mint pair of rear steel wings in steel if you decide to keep the car, before you paint it .just drop me a line

Tommy, mine is road worthy, only limitation to that as we speak is that the filler tube is not attached under the rear wing as I am planning to take the wings off to paint it. So while they are fitted, it's in such a way that they can be taken off in a few minutes.
This week I bought a brand new Saab genuine front driver side wing which I have rubbed back and will be primed today (Saturday 29 August) and also coated inside. It is pristine, and clearly a bit thicker steel than the one on the car at the moment.

Hi guys, sorry for the lack of contact. Spare cash has been less plentiful than I'd hoped so the hunt for a V4 was postponed. The idea is still appealing but I'll have to put it on the back burner.

Doive, glad to hear "the roller" is still going strong. I miss that car.

Rhys, have you still got yours? If so, any progress on making it roadworthy?

Hi Tommy, yes we still have the 95, it's just had an engine rebuild with a 1700 crank courtesy of Melle, a load of parts courtesy of Malbrad, and a Sachs clutch sourced from Germany by Bill at Saabits. The bigger capacity has really changed the character of the engine, it pulls like a train from just above idle now. Done a fair bit of structural tidying and welding over the last few years, just to keep on top of the dreaded tinworm - all solid underneath. Cosmetics were never this car's strong point! Maybe one day we will give it a respray, but I think that would spoil it's character. Lots of electrics tidied up too, intermittent wipers fitted, extra gauges, LED bulbs throughout. These kind of projects are never really finished, more of a continuous rolling restoration. I don't think we would want to sell it, my wife and I regularly fight over the keys!

I would say definitely source yourself another V4, they are such a useable and characterful little car, I have been driving ours 60 miles each day to and from work without complaint, and then using it for load lugging at weekends.

I’ve a decent fairy solid 1971 Saab 96 for sale in original paint and never been welded, needs a front wing drivers side and a repair drivers rear wing bottom of the wing, can supply parts needed, needs a respray as it’s faded, all original trim never messed with starts and drives, email me lambretta66@btinternet.com for more info and pictures if needed.

Welcome back! I think Doive in Scotland now owns your old 95? I have no idea on prices (nor do I care to be honest), parts availability is not much different from 5 years ago.
