In an effort to keep this section alive I have posted a collection of images showing some of my efforts in competition using Saabs spanning many years. Starting with my very first black 1968 V4 (1 road rally and 3 single venue events), my 1969 ex-works V4 (several events over nearly 10 years) and my Sonett (1 private Curborough Sprint day - so far!).

The image in the middle is the advert that inspired me as a 14 year old to go rallying myself - seen on the wall of Findley and Wilks's Co Durham garage after having a test drive in a 96 driven by Phil Wilks (fastest test drive ever!!) which resulted in my Dad buying his first Saab. As a family we went on to owing 30 plus Saabs and myself and my brother are still owners, Sonett III and 9-3x 2.0T station wagon for me and 900i vert, 900 8 valve Turbo and a 9-5 Aero for him. My eldest son has a 900 Carlsson and a 9-3Tx awd so keeping up the tradition.

I know there are more "rally" Saabs out there than have been for some time, so hoping this inspires some of you to share some images. It's been a long time since anyone posted here - the advantage of this forum over Facebook is that entries don't slide down the list and disappear so, got to be worth some of you posting some images on here hasn't it?

NB I am trying to locate PUP 96K which was sold again in 2017 to someone in the Ripon area of N. Yorks - anybody having any info please let me know.

Woody
I knew Alistair Robertson well, back in the 70s, when I had my 1st Saabs.
It's where I got my spares, and I bought one 900 from him, (MSP 90Y)
His sister always drove a 99 with the plate JOY 99 on it.

I wasn't aware that he'd passed away.
I had some communication with his son Iain back in 2012, when I was looking for a 96.
At that time he told me his father was in a home.

St Clair motors is still there, on the same, though somewhat reduced, site, run by Iain as far as I'm aware.

Yes it is. Alistair, who passed away last year, had bought the orange car from Saab direct and collected it from the Competitions Dept in February 1975, just before competing with it on the Swedish Rally. I went to see him and the car in May 1975
as he was preparing to do the Scottish Rally in it in early June, and he let me have a drive in it around the back lanes of Kirkcaldy. Acceleration and sound was amazing.

The car was sold in 1976 and had a number of owners before languishing in a barn for 20-30 years in Wales.
It was bought and restored to modern rally spec by Francis Tuthill :-

Would that be Alistair Robertson of St Clair Motors, in Kirkcaldy?

OH YES !!
The forestry bit with downhill left hander was Clipstone 1. I was spectating about a mile further along. Great footage and sound of Stig and Per charging.
Then after the rally had finished, I had a little practice (at rolling). Daft thing was I had driven the stage two months earlier on the Dukeries Rally.

Works cars from the event, taken at Barnby Moor Hotel time control before York:-
Stig Blomqvist/Arne Hertz retired after breaking a wishbone in Wales:-

I think you'll appreciate this one John! The quality and sound are excellent, Could it be a lost piece of film from Barrie Hinchcliffe Productions?

Lovely quality footage of the 1973 RAC Sutton Park stage with footage of Stig trying hard to match times with Roger Clark in the RS1600.
