SAAB96L | Posted - 25 Jan 2022 : 19:01:30 Hello,
Slightly odd question.
Is the engine bay bracing bar completely straight OR does it have a very shallow curve towards the bulkhead ??
Placed a level against mine and it certainly does have a subtle curve.
I am replacing it, but I wanted to check before making a new one and welding it in.
Thank you.

SAAB96L | Posted - 05 Feb 2022 : 13:30:20 Hello,
To complete the thread, I have decided to replicate and make an identical shaped bracing bar that is currently fitted to the car, being the OE item.
Many thanks.

SAAB96L | Posted - 02 Feb 2022 : 17:36:59 Hello,
For those folk who have needed to replace the bracing bar, has anyone used square steel tube rather than circular ??
The brace bar size is 720mm x 25mm x 1.5mm
Regards.

melle | Posted - 30 Jan 2022 : 20:33:23 There are two types, later cars have a different one to accommodate a bigger battery. Most are bent from repeated engine removal by incompetent mechanics (I know 'cause I am one...). Why are you replacing yours Richard?

SAAB96L | Posted - 27 Jan 2022 : 15:15:41 Many thanks Derek, that is certainly a useful option to consider; I will have a look at that as I'm in the garage tomorrow.
Regards.

Derek | Posted - 27 Jan 2022 : 11:35:42 You could consider fitting a bolt in bar. Very useful when removing/fitting the engine. Take a precise measurement between the shock towers before removing the bar in case of body flex. |
SAAB96L | Posted - 26 Jan 2022 : 14:43:39 Thank you both for your replies, that is most helpful. At first I thought I was imagining it, but with a straight edge there proved to be a subtle curve. No accident damage to the bar of any sort, hence reasoning it may be OE design.
Regards.

Betsy67 | Posted - 26 Jan 2022 : 12:48:12 Can't say this is something I've noticed - will have a look tonight. Having a slight curve might be a 'factory thing' to allow for a microscopic bit of flex ? Could also be where someone has previously whacked it doing an engine replacement :-) |
EdinburghJoe | Posted - 26 Jan 2022 : 12:04:12 Interesting - mine definitely has a bend in it. Seems counter to its purpose, I always thought... |
