Has anyone ever fitted or considered fitting fuel injection to their v4? Is it technically possible to retro fit a system? What are the major hurdles? Does anyone know?

Hello Rodolfo,

New crossflow manifolds are manufactured in Sweden, but those are quite expensive 33750SEK ~ 4000USD.

https://www.alundamotor.com/forgasaretillbehor/korsinsug-v4k

But it looks like they do not have those manifolds in storage at the moment. I think they had few months ago.

There is also another option in Netherlands and the price is 1930€

Modifications in your Sensitivemechanica Saab are very impressive and your Saab has been one of the "role models" for my own Saab project:

I have also built kind of cross flow manifold by myself like graminal95.

Dear Sir:
I have a Saab v4 I my intention is to get a cross flow intake manifold.
i kindle ask somebody know who sell this manifolds or have one for sell.
Thanks and best regars,
Rodolfo

PD: you can see my Saab at www.sensitivemechanica.com

Where did you mount the trigger wheel sensor?

Lovely lovely! Thanks again, very informative.

To be honest, I have no clue as how to position the injectors. Will do some more reading on the matter. I have 900 K-Jet injectors and a set off a MKII Golf. I'm trying to figure out how many cc/min either of them produce. The Golf injectors are much shorter, which could either be an advantage or disadvantage, that I don't know at the moment.

My 96 is only used as a road car and I don't do rallies; it currently has a stock 1.7hc engine. This means no need to make radical mods to the advance mechanism and safe to experiment with stuff off other road cars with similar displacement engines and Bosch JFU4 distributors. I used to use the original curve (mechanical + vacuum advance) from a 0 237 170 183 (1.5) dizzy and I'm currently using the mechanical advance off a VW Scirocco and the original vacuum can. I imagine the engine is more lively now. It's 100% trial and error as I don't know the advance curves of most of the dizzies I have. I have a bunch here at home in Ireland (my workshop and cars are in my workshop in the Netherlands) that I will measure the total advance of shortly. Wish I could find any info on the advance curves of all different Bosch vacuum canisters available...

I was running the same type of ignition before but had the megasquirt controlling the timing. Are you still using the stock timing curve?

Here is the link I was trying to post earlier.

Great info, thanks. I was thinking stock 900i K-Jet on a stock 1.5V4. Manifolds cost next to nothing and are easy to modify to accommodate the K-Jet throttle body off a 900. Not sure how to position the injectors. K-Jet conversions have been done before and, being fairly familiar with K-Jet, I think this is doable, but complex enough for me for now.

Ignition is a different story, I run a VW Hall converted dizzy with amplifier module now, very happy with its performance, but distributorless/ programmable is the inevitable next step. Have you seen Borstlap's Megajolt thread? http://www.saab-v4.co.uk/speedball/topic.asp?topic_id=3795

If I was going to fuel injected a stock v4 I would get a small throttle body injection unit for a geo or something similar and adapt it to the intake in place of a 2bbl.

I do have the intake from my first iteration of injection that I no longer need if someone want to go that route for a fully ported engine. The manifold is an ex Eklund intake from his rally cross car.

It is a dcnf, I had a hell of a time trying to get it tuned correctly and gave up in favor of efi. I used the carb as a throttle body because it was easy.

I'll post some photos of the korsinsug I made when I have time.

Is that a stripped down Weber DCNF you're using as a throttle body?

Thanks for the update. I didn't link the vid to the thread, it rather was the other way round. I was doing some research on fuel injection on V4s (I'm thinking K-Jetronic), found this thread through Google and did some smart further googling. Your fabrication looks amazing in the vid, feel free to post some additional photos here!

I can't see the vid from your latest post, I'm afraid your link refers to your edit page.

I’m surprised you saw the vid. and linked it to this thread. I just upgraded to megasquirt 2, have 380cc/min injectors and throttle bodies from a snowmobile (same port spacing at the heads, makes for easy inlet fab.). I deleted the distributor and have a 36-1 trigger wheel on the balance shaft pulley. The car runs great and pulls very strong from about 2600 rpm up. The 8.3 cam makes for great top end but takes away from the low end torque, the intake with 20-21in runners makes up for it.

Last weekends rallycross.

I have a 7:38 final drive on the way and hopefully a spec. 1 gearset, but we'll see what I and John can dig up.

John is still doing some v4 stuff here and there, but is big into making cossy stuff for the Sierra.

I think that for a bunch of dough he would come over and sort your car out.

He just did a 96, I think he has some picts up at www.JVAB.f4.ca

Oh and Mr Burrrrrrrrrrt, I have had a v6 (2.9) cut up to use for an intake and lets just say it would be a ton of work. The 2.9 uses a cam chain and so the thermostat housing is in the way of the front cover on our v4s, it also does not have the coolant passage that is needed.... a few other things are needed, so for the same amount of welding you could mod a stock manifold and have a better design. I think about 19in long runners at about 40mm wide would be best. The stock saab cross flow is best if you can find one for a good price.

I want one !!
Do you think that John would consider a visit to Aberdeen to sort out my wee beastie.
Nice one Graminal95

Thanks... The engine is at 1815cc with custom forged pistons, its at about 10.8 to 1 with a 8.3 cam. The heads are dual exhaust port and have been ported to the max, I could go further but there is only about 3mm of material for the gasket for the moment. I think the valves are 38mm exhaust and 42mm intake? I would have to go look at my papers. I copied the factory exhaust and added my own tail section. I know that the same engine with down draft Weber makes around 140hp but that’s with stock porting etc and without real ignition control. I think I will be able to get about 160hp and about 175hp with a korsinsug (cross flow) if I can find one cheap.

I don’t think I have any other intake pics, but there are a few pics at my very old web page that I never finished here

http://www.geocities.com/graminal/home.html

If anyone knows where a I can get a lower part of a korsinsug cheap I would love to hear from you.
