Above vehicle is a classic example of misrepresenting a vehicle as being earlier than it was originally manufactured...

melle | Posted - 06 Apr 2017 : 22:05:18 It's easy enough to change a 95/96's identity, hence my comment re the chassis number; they're not all "ringers" or tax dodgers though. I know a chap who swapped over a complete 95 cross panel with the chassis number because he had a rotten body with papers and an (imported) sound one without. Looked factory and saved him a lot of registration hassle. Is it illegal, yes, do I have moral obligations, no, in my eyes it's just pragmatic.
My '77 95 will have a '70 appearance when done, it'll keep its (Dutch) '77 reg though.

andydeans3 | Posted - 06 Apr 2017 : 21:37:10 Looks like a lovely car. Not sure if the dashboard should be green though, were they not all grey? Also the two tone door cards, is that "original"?
As far as the year is concerned, it's perfectly normal to put older plates on a car. The description even mentions that it comes with a private plate. I'm sure the V5 will confirm when it was first registered.

melle | Posted - 06 Apr 2017 : 13:35:59 Ask for a pic of the chassis number, if it's welded in neatly everything should be OK.

Derek | Posted - 06 Apr 2017 : 13:17:35 Well the '65 number plate stands out of course but you are allowed to do that. You can't do it the other way round and try and make it seem newer than it is. Ad does say the owner had used many parts from two other cars. Many here have done the same, with the swapping in of earlier front ends being common. I don't think that Verona Green was listed for 1968 but if it was done as a bare shell respray it was a brave choice of colour and not one which helped its value IMO. Dash looks poor in that colour. Good value? I'd guess that the dealer is hoping for a £2.5k profit, more if he wasn't very generous with the P/E amount. |
Betsy67 | Posted - 06 Apr 2017 : 04:50:41 Looked at this a few times and thought something doesn't sit quite right. I'm not too knowledgable on body changes to specific years, but it does look like a mix of parts from various years. A 70's car with early grill and dash ? Also a 68 with a 65 No plate? Very clean and tidy looking car though. |
