Melle, I have just spent the last hour using the search to see what I can find, and to be honest I haven't come up with much. Please see new thread as feel I have messed Aidans' one enough.

Melle.
What parts do you have left for the 1.7?

Melle, I thought you could pen this so that newbies like me stop asking dumb questions :)

New thread coming on a "how to build a nice road engine" ?
mellePosted - 19 Apr 2017 : 20:28:18
All V4 blocks are identical, bar the difference between the "early" open deck blocks and the later, more common, closed deck engines and their respective types of heads. For a "performance" engine you want a closed deck block to start with and the type of inlet manifold, crank, pistons, camshaft, valves etc. that fit your aspirations/ wallet. I have loads of blocks in my workshop in NL, but you can find one closer to home easily enough.

It's easy/ cheap enough to build a very nice road engine, it's the last bhp you need deep pockets for. I would only ever build a race/ rally engine if I would use it in anger, for (spirited) road use "fast" cams, big valves etc. are a waste of money in my opinion. Each to their own though!

A somewhat general question, but relevant I hope. Is it worth finding a core engine t build as a "good performer" for down the track? If so, any suggestions for the core, then buy lots off you Melle.

I keep the opening post updated; a flurry of more recent posts has been removed by a mod but for reasons unknown to me some old posts have remained.

Depends on how deep your pockets are...
