As per title, my friend and I are looking for a gearbox for a 1975 Silver anniversary model which has just been bought, driven 350 miles with a very noisy gearbox and has just been diagnosed as done for! Any leads appreciated, or if anyone knows of a person who would rebuild that would be great. Car is in W Yorkshire but between us we cover Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and the North!
cheers
Simon

Hi yes
I know of the car and its restoration I think it's don's car you bought ? I have a static in Newquay seen this car before sure it's had a clutch in it,trouble is they need regular checking of the oil level in the gearbox otherwise you get gearbox problems ,I bought one last week from a auction original paint and 2 owners I also have 2 others that I'm breaking in April both have engines and boxes in them.

Yes, it's the one from St Ives. It's actually been bought by a friend in Yorkshire who's not on the forum ( we co-own a C900 bought after pub closing time on ebay many years ago) I'm in Devon though! The car managed to get to Yorkshire but when I had a ride in it the gearbox was obviously in distress! It's been inspected by a very well known Yorkshire Saab guru who has pointed out the problems with it, especially the gearbox. Do you have knowledge of the St Ives car?

Thanks for the reply, we have a couple of leads and have contacted Malbrad and Jamsaab. And yes, I believe you're right as the gearbox is very noisy in third and fourth

Graham Macdonald at The SaabShop does rebuilds, your 'box is probably suffering from the usual rear pinion bearing failure that plagues these cars (noisy in 3rd and 4th especially)

Malbrad are close to you too if you're in W Yorkshire
