Hi All,
I have converted a distributor to hall effect using VAG parts.
I am having difficulty finding the 3 pin plug, does anyone know a part No for it please,

Thanks for the pictures, in the end I put a small 4mm washer under a larger washer to achieve a small amount of axial clearance on the top shaft.
I have encountered one problem with the wiring, my hard to find 3 pin plug is numbered 1 2 3 on it, unfortunately this is a mirror image of your numbering in the manual. It may help in the future if you changed the manual to - 0 + as it is marked on the fixed part of the plug on the distributor.
The car fired up immediately but won't keep running long enough to adjust the timing, I'll need some assistance from my wife,

Took some pics of my dizzy today. Bit hard to see if there is a washer under the screw in the top shaft without taking it apart, but I took the opportunity to oil the felt when checking! Im using a 900ng distributor cap (Bosch part number 1 235 522 332) should you be wondering, works great with the Solex air filter housing.

No fouling whatsoever:

I use a cheese head screws. It's been a wile since I did the last one, not sure if I used washers at all.

Linkages/ fouling depend on the type of carb you're using I imagine. You can rotate the dizzy 90 degrees to get it to sit in a more convenient position, just swap the HT leads around. I'm not sure if I needed to do this on my current engine with a DCD, can check later.

Did you put a stepped washer under the 4mm cap screw to achieve free movement of the top shaft on the dizzi and did you rotate the distributor to avoid the 3 pin plug fouling the throttle linkage.

Clive, you dont need that exact number, any JFU4-type dizzy that turns in the right direction should be usable. Ive also used them from Volvos, the Hall element is the same.

Barry, thanks for the info. I just overhauled two Bosch starters for which I needed oilite bushes; I assumed they would be metric, but theyre not. Very hard to find non-standard sizes. I oil them by putting them on my thumb, filling with oil and pushing with my other thumb on the other end to push the oil through the walls. This way theyre saturated in seconds rather than a day.

Melle, I've been hunting for a distributor, but can't find the exact one listed in you're manual. I can however find one with Bosch part number ending 58 rather than 56, and VW number ending in B. Unfortunately I don't know enough to determine whether this is compatible?

I am 95% sure the bush size is 16mm od, 12mm id and 12mm long.
Remember to dunk in oil for a day before fitting.

Haha! To be honest, I thought it was a universal plug, but apparently I was mistaken. If you can find the size of the Oilite bush, please let me know.

Hi Melle,
It,s been a while since I done the distributor, I remember having difficulty removing the shaft as the body of the dizzi had been swagged around the fixed disc. l bored out the base to install an additional oil-lite bush using a lathe and fixture to centralise the body.
Drilling the holes around the body required studying your pictures to ensure correct positioning without excessive hole clearance.
Re-assembly was straightforward replacing screws with cap screws. Do you remember how much float is normal between the gear and the base of the aluminium body ?
I am still having problems locating the 3 pin plug you found the ident no for me, they appear to be no longer available and they are now quite old to find in breakers.
If anyone has one it would be greatly appreciated.

Hope you found it useful. Should you have any remarks or ideas for improvement based on your experience, feel free to let me know. I've built a few Hall dizzies myself, but haven't had any feedback so far from others who've actually used the manual. I think many people are put off by electronics stuff and I hope the manual will help overcome that fear. Electrics/ electronics isn't my forte either, so if I can do it anyone can. I think a Hall effect conversion is the single most useful upgrade for any V4, before carbs and exhausts etc.; it really transforms an engine and makes it much more reliable.
