I am just about to get my car back from the fettlers and have a quick question: the engine is now 1740cc with appropriate can, head etc. Will the 32/36 carb be up to the job and if not what are the alternatives? Car used mainly for endurance rallies (off to Portugal next week).

I'm guessing you are getting the error message when you post a reply. I may get one when I post this. It's an ongoing problem. Just ignore it and check 10 minutes later to see if you post is there. It invariably is.

Thanks for all of the help; I will have a word with FastRoadCars to upgrade the jetting on the 32/36.
Having just seen the class we are in for London - Lisbon, I am hopeful rather than expectant: 1x 280Sl, 1 X MGB, 6 x 911 !

In my opinion, jetting shouldn't be taken for granted for any carb used on any engine. Assuming that what works on one engine will work on another (and it usually does, sort of...), is a recipe for disaster.

I had a 40dfi on my 1531 big valve heads rally car. Worked well but very thirsty, OK for stage rallying but probably better to stick with the progressive for longer endurance events.
As somebody has PUP 96K hidden away somewhere that carb and engine should still exist. Anyone know where it's gone????!!!!

Assuming you have the 4 stud sport and rally manifold machined and ported correctly to match then..........
Standard 32/36DGV carbs are progressive ie 1 choke opens before the 2nd
You can modify them or buy another which is synchronous opening ie both chokes together
38DGMS carbs are bigger and always synchronous AFAIK - you might need to increase port on mounting flange?
40DFI carbs are even bigger but very rare, very expensive and very old so beware
You can use various DCNF carbs on MSS customised manifold which IMHO should be the best single carb set-up - Ive got one to fit to the sonett sometime

The 32/36 will do the job but may need re-jetting. I'm sure there are details on here of which jets to use. Please let us know how you get on in Portugal it would be good to get a new post in the rallying section!
