| I'm about to start work on the heater matrix/fan assembly on my '96, firstly.... I've checked the valve and it's certainly air tight when closed and unobstructed when open. The copper thermostatic coil seems to be in good condition (I presume this 'trims' the temperature of the matrix by partially closing the valve). I tested the copper coil by holding it over my workshop stove, the wee plunger moved about 4mm, so appears to be working? Another question, rolling on from one a few weeks ago is the question of the T piece bypass in the area of pipework behind the coolant pump- I would like to delete it from my '96, so it would be like the early models, is that going to make any difference? One of the things I don't like about the '96 engine bay is the untidy mish mash of coolant pipes and especially the crude steel connections. Incidentally, has anyone replaced these with stainless? Another question is whether it's possible to buy a repro label for the casing of the heater.

Some 96's have the T piece behind the pump, some don't. See my question about this issue Under "Cooling System Plumbing".
I have seen one or two 96 where those metal water pipes at the back of the engine have been chromed. Not sure about Stainless.
For the heater label, I did find a supplier on E bay, but they didn't last long with the heat under the bonnet. They started curling at the corners pretty soon after fitting. Here is the Ebay link

I believe there was some chap in Sweden some time back, doing better ones, but I don't have his contact info.

Here's a photo of the label on my fan housing. You can see it starting to curl at the edges. It's been on about 6 months. I got it from the E bay link I posted above.

| I bought some 'Jensen' ones years ago and they are still OK. He is slow to respond to emails though, if at all. (BTW that sticker is also used on classic 900)

| Chrome plating isn't great these days, never was come to think of it, think I'll use stainless or longer lengths of reinforced hose. I reckon I'll try and reuse the old sticker it's not in too bad condition.

| The local firm who did some zinc plating for me recommended doing the cooling pipes in bright nickel, as they thought it would be more durable and a lot cheaper than chrome. I like the result as it's not too shiny.

| Fantastic looking engine bay; if mine looks half as tidy as that I'll be pleased...

| That is nice detailing Digger. I am about to get a bunch of stuff plated and the nickel looks just the business. I don't know that I can be bothered detailing the hose clips, but you haveraised the bar some! | |

| As I took off all the cooling metal tubes today, mostly OK but perhaps I thought I might have them re-made. Would anybody else be interested, or is there another source? | |
