| Hi! I just bought a set of 92.3mm (1.5mm oversize) Pinto pistons for my v4, and I was curious if anyone here is using these pistons? If so; What headgaskets do you use? Any machining on top of pistons?
Thanks!

| Hej, Welcome to the Forum.
Production bore was 90mm so 92.3mm is more than 1.5mm oversize for a V4 though the Pinto was 90.8 standard?. I suspect these will be for use with a 1700 crank as they will have a different compression height. Have some Pinto 2000 pistons but dont have a 1700 crank anymore so haven't used them yet. I believe there a some guys on here who have/are using them so maybe they will come on shortly.

| Hi Woody!
Yes, it´s 1.5mm oversize in the Pinto engine, 2.3mm oversize in the v4. I will be using a 1700 crank, and the discplacement will be around 1788cc with 92.3mm pistons if my calculation is correct. Vroom vroom!

| I've got 90.8mm pinto pistons with a 1700 crank and they didn't need any machining (the block had been milled).
There is a couple of threats about the rebuild that may be of interest.
good luck and indeed VROOM VROOM!

| Nice looking V4 Krister. Love to see V4s with Bosch Knicks mounted. How have you mounted them to the bumper? Std head gaskets are fine for 90.8 but 92.3 will require something different I would guess. My V4 has 91mm pistons but I am using comp gaskets with separate copper ring inserts. I don't know what the availability is of the 93mm comp gaskets and rings.
Brings back memories of my first V4, taken 40yrs ago..

| I use the standard 90mm gaskets with the 90.8mm pinto pistons. As they come up flush there are no snags so far! | |

| I have some of those copper gaskets available, already made (including copper exhaust gaskets).

| None. Never use any sealant with head gaskets. Red copper head gaskets are soft enough to compress and seal, and are reusable.

| Thanks for your replies! Anyone tried Sweedspeed's head gaskets? Haven't checked with them myself, but I heard that they have "std type" head gaskets for 90/91/92/93/94mm bore...

| I just got a reply from Sweedspeed; They have headgaskets for 94mm bore. According to them it will work just fine with my 92.3mm bore. Price is 2x49.50 euro excl vat. if any of you was wondering...

| Thanks for those links, i had read them before, what i really want are peoples personal experience with copper gaskets i have a solid (alloy) gasket for my two stroke, the head and block will both be skimmed for as pefect a surface as possible but Niklas suggests using a gm sealant similar to hylomar and lots of the american sites advocate the use of spray copper instant gasket. I appreciate that use of sealant should be very sparing but i tend to think some sealant is needed... | |

| I haven't used the copper gaskets yet myself, but I would say the same regarding sealant; spray copper or Hylomar, applied in a very thin layer. I was given the tip to let it dry until it's barely tacky before installation.
