Hi folks,

Would anyone like to throw in their twopenny worth on the possible cause of a problem I'm having with a recently acquired '74 96?

When the indicator is used, the 'warning' light in the speedo flashes once and then stops although the indicators continue to flash. Somewhat perplexingly the warning light flashes normally when the hazard warning lights are used.

So far a variety of flasher units have been substituted but to no avail. The earth wires to the underdash support bar and the front inner wing have been unbolted to allow the steel to sanded and the terminals to be cleaned. Again this has had no effect. Are there are any other earth terminals that should be cleaned?

The indicator stalk has been changed and all contact points between it and the steering column have been cleaned to ensure a good earth - again to no effect.

The various cables to the hazard warning light switch, the rheostat, and the speedo have been removed and refixed. Similarly, all of the underdash connection blocks that I can find have been pulled apart and put back together. I now have a flashing hazard warning switch, a working rheostat and a full complement of working backlights in the gauges but I can't get the indicator warning light to work consistently.

Any thoughts?

Cheers
Ian

Issue resolved....it turns out that this particular 96 has an aversion to Tung-Sol flasher units (well....at least the four I tried out on it) - it's now operating fine with a no-name generic unit.
Cheers

I've had a similar problem with a square blue Hella unit. Good that it's solved!
