| Pete - thanks for the good luck!
Zagato - I know what you mean, both potentially expensive!
The MOT tester was a great guy who used to work on Transits with the V4 as an apprentice and remembers balance shaft bearings going on a regular basis! As hoped once the ramp went up in the air all the guys in the garage had a look at how clean it is underneath. A couple of advisories - one of the rear brakes is down on the other side, probably just adjustment and the front brakes are dragging slightly - as you know I haven't rebuilt the front end yet so will get some rebuilt callipers on there asap.
The drive to the MOT station was nerve racking as this was the first proper drive since 2003. Made it though and no bits fell off!
Went for a proper drive on Dartmoor yesterday evening and still nothing fell off and it didn't break down! Thought I got some great photos parked up by Lopwell Dam but got home and realised my camera was on close up. If no one believes the car made it that far I can post a blurry pic! I'll get some shots at the beach this weekend though.

| Just cleaning up the callipers with a file and applying some copaslip should help them, along with a bit of hard use. As with most callipers, they don't like sitting about unused.
Congrats on the new MOT. | |

| Well done, Gareth!
If you do clean up the calipers, expect them to "clonk" like they're about to fall off until they get dirty again! I made the mistake of thoroughly cleaning mine, and they are still clonking today! You'll probably find a pair of new pistons and seals will make a useful difference. I fitted stainless steel pistons to the 95 when I had it (see V4s For Sale!) and I have a set waiting to go on the 96 the next time I have to overhaul them.
The ones on the 95 I had specially made by someone I know, but since then there has been a guy advertising mini ones on ebay that are an exact match. The link was on here a while back - a search for it on here should find it.

| Hi All,
Got to work today to find a nice surprise in my office!
Well, not a huge surprised as I had ordered it!
I notice in Alec's article the exhaust was given a couple of coats of VHT paint. Not sure whether to do this or not - if anyone has done this how has it held up?
Cheers

| Don't bother spraying the pipes that attach to the engine, it will be gone in 60 seconds once you start the engine (was my experience at least). Standard VHT paint with a max temp of 600-650 degrees Celcius won't hold, you need paint that holds to at least 850 degrees. Question is if that is on the market, can't recall having seen it.

| Had to go to work yesterday (Sunday) but was rewarded with an early finish and a drive down to Royal William Yard in the sun for a coffee.
Cars running well, no bits have fallen off! Running a little hot so will have to do a bit of cooling system maintenance soon but otherwise all good!

| Hi All,
Well, decided to rebuild the front brakes on the 96. Gathered all the bits and planned to rebuild some callipers ready to just swap some over in one go but to my surprise couldn't find any - maybe too much junk!
Anyway had a complete battle with the OS calliper. One bolt came undone easily, the other rounded - then I got it moving then it sheared! So off with the hub and on a bench. One of the neighbours at work drilled a hole for me with a super tough drill bit, I screwed an easyout in which promptly snapped off filling the hole again!
At this stage I resorted to finding a spare hub which led to the discovery of two callipers!
Now bolted back together but haven't even started on the brakes yet!
Cheers

| Hi All,
Well, the slowest brake rebuild ever continues! Time has been short but managed a couple of hours after work but at work tonight.
Nice shiny bits:
All put together:
And waiting for paint to dry!
Hoping for an evening next week where I can get the car back on it's wheels!
