| Hi All,
The last few months has seen zero progress on SAAB projects but I have not been sitting idle... Alongside some fairly major house renovations I have just about finished building this.
What is it? It's a SAAB home right behind our house!
I have a couple of jobs to do on the 96, mainly fitting the Webber 28/36 fresh back from Gower and Lee then the first 95 will be wheeled back in and maybe even on the road for the Summer! |

This is where I've got my Tacho, but mine's a LHD, and has the heater controls at the extreme left side of the car.

Andy, that's not a Tacho, it's a Troll - oh, down there! Looks good, I have just bid on an 80mm pod on ebay with a plan to attach it behind the steering wheel in the centre, we'll see if I win the auction. Was also measuring up the Miniflo guttering for my new SAAB home but I think to small to work...

Took the 96 for a spin tonight with the new carb - transformed! I wasn't sure there would be a massive difference as it was previously running a Nikki which I would imagine offers similar levels of efficiency at getting the fuel in. There is obviously a difference in manifold, the Nikki was mounted on an adapter plate and the Weber is on the correct SAH manifold. I am now really wondering if it is a case of the manifold flowing better or having a freshly rebuilt carb that really makes the difference - any thoughts? The improvement shows up in a real willingness to rev to the point that I now need to urgently fit a rev counter so I don't get carried away and blow it up!

When I had my original car back in the late 60s / early 70s, I had it tuned by SAH, who mounted a Weber 28/36 on an adapter to the original manifold. Now I may be suffering from rose-tinted spectacles, but I'm sure that that car was a lot quicker than my current one, which also uses a 28/36 but on a proper S&R manifold.
I did wonder whether the two-bolt to four-bolt adapter gave a better "swirling" action, vapourising the mixture better. On the other hand, back then we were running on leaded fuel - typically 99 octane, better than the best currently on offer! Also, I suspect the SAH exhaust was more free-flowing than the Jetex, and my current car has a Vege re-conditioned engine, which many people have described as being "flat" compared to a Ford original. Who knows? But in any event, if you have found a good improvement in performance it will have been worth it! And you'll probably find its just as economical on fuel - provided you can resist the temptation to floor it all the time!!!!

Got a few jobs done on this one as want to get the 95 in the garage to finish off the welding.
I know I’m going to need front brake flexi hoses on the 95 so I thight I would pinch the nearly new ones off this one and upgrade to Goodrich with Stainless Fittings.
I picked up some new unused poly bushes from a nice chap on here a while back – time to get those fitted and freshen up some suspension components with chassis paint.
Also finally got around to sending off the front Number Plate to Tippers who were able to restore it for me as I wanted to stick with the original font.
Probably done now for a while on this one, might replace the trim around the front and rear windscreens but going to be mainly concentrating on the 95.

| Simon - Like the idea of the bike rack attached to the traditional roof rack. I do have two 95s though so should probably concentrate on getting those working rather than a roof rack project!
The Porsche is pretty much top of my list of cars I would like to own, maybe one day a very rusty 912...
Pete - The carb rebuild was excellent - came back looking like new. I bolted it on and performance was transformed but it is definitely needing some set up which is not my area of expertise so I might be asking you some questions! I have been working on the 95 though and really want to get the 96 back in the garage for some fettling so will probably leave it till then.
