"Hi Chris, both of the 96's have been sold to a Saab specialists in Cambridge. I guess they are a pile of parts now as they were both basket cases. Regards Ralph"

Looks like the same car...

| Yes Simon, agreed.
OK so picked her up this morning, pumped up the tyres, took her out of gear and she rolls :D
Now tucked away around the back of the house, hoovered and this is what came out of her.
Anyone got any idea what this is?
All good hear and the front wing is spotless, I may pinch it for the other 96!
The bit around the windscreen is not going to be good but the bit at the bottom of the gutter is just surface.

| The carb is a Weber DCD, check the base for the exact type, 28/36 is most common. It sits on an adaptor on a single choke manifold.

| Yes, says 28/36DCD25 on it. What is the significance, BHP increase etc. Is it worth sticking with, will it run OK with it. Presume it jets more petrol in!

I'm sure you can look up the "25" spec somewhere, they came with different venturis and jets (or take the filter off and check venuris and screw the jets out). The filter looks like K&N?

No idea, also depends on manifold, exhaust etc. They're very well built carbs, albeit of a somewhat outdated design.

If jetted and tuned correctly, DCD's should be both more economical and give more oompf than FoMoCos due to the two stage design. The great thing about this carb is that you can change almost all jets without taking it apart. Many threads on DCDs on the forum.
gorselands: at the bottom of each thread is a "subscribe to this topic" link.

| Great find Chris and definitely stick with the twin choke. It's progressive so only uses the first choke for cruising but then gives you extra umph when you floor it and the second choke opens up. First mod I did on my original black 96V4 and once the novelty of listening to the induction noise and the extra power had worn off it got a lot better mpg on long runs than I did with the dreaded FOMOCO tilting can carb and even better did away with the troublesome auto choke! | |

Thanks Gorslands, is your colour code the same as mine R2b, is that Torreador red anyone. I cannot find my book and it doesn,t say colour names in the 1972 brochures.
The reason the offside front wing is rot free is that it is fibre glass.. Doh! I have a good steel one to go on the otherside, and maybe sorted with a good rear nearside wing. There are two older style wheels on one side and two correct later style wheels on the other, I prefer the early styles however if anyone has two spare. It's nice to have a model which is so different to the 77 model.
I detest that front grill, so it has to go if anyone knows of a USA spec grill (I cannot do Tradera as I cannot update and change the primary email on my PayPal account) BUT she will be left under cover for a while until I have sorted the other 96 and more immediately my boat trailer as I am signed up for a sailing rally around the Isle of Wight soon
I had fun and games with limited reversing space in the garden and had to un hitch the trailer and use the trailers winch to back winch around the viburnum bush you can see in the middle of the daffodils. The angle became too acute once the nose of the trailer came around so I parked the car alongside the trailer and back winched from the tow bar. Thank goodness that bush was there, one of my jobs for the weekend (that did not get done) was to dig it out.
Stupid chicken looking at me whilst all this was going on thinking who is the stupid one. I'm sure it sits on it,s perch all day considering the meaning of life and giving me the evil, patronising eye, thinking what an idiot I am. It was on short rations this evening and locked up early for the night!

| 28/36 DCD 25 is listed as used on Fiat 1800B. Interesting adaptor, can you see a maker's mark on it? There are jettings info on the forum if you do a search. Interested to see what chokes are in it. Just check for wear on the primary spindle. Are you going to try starting it as it is? Haynes Manual on Weber carburettors has a chapter dedicated to the 28/36 DCD. Car looks a great find and in good condition for its age. Has the RH rear vent cover been missing for a while? Looking forward to seeing more. | |
