I have a query on the rocker shaft supports. In the manuals it says to locate the support with the oil-way at the front of the head on one bank and the rear on the other. The thing is out of the 6 heads that I have none of the supports resemble item 18 on the attached extract from the parts manual. They are all as 1tem 17 Can anyone advise please.
Item 18 is usually placed on the head at the pillar which has the oil feed from the camshaft groove. This would be over pistons 1 & 4. This type of support is usually found on early engines. Later engines appear to have the same No 17 both sides. The parts book does not identify additional posts but there are two types of shaft listed along with two types of rocker arm. Change approx 1969/70. Need to check my sets for variances.
Thanks Woody but my problem is that I only seem to have pillars which look like item 17 not 18 which appears to have a different top and I don't have any of item 22. This applies to the heads I'm working on off the car which is running and the spares I have. I must admit the rockers didn't exactly look well oiled and I wasn't either but I will take another look after a visit to Specsavers
Do I remember that there is a hole or slot in the shaft that has to align with the oil way? Can be fitted 180º out? Might well be wrong but I seem to remember a thread about this.
