Need some help, I've been getting an intermittent noise from the drivers side suspension, thought I might have not tightened something up so checked everything was ok (it's had all new bushes, seals, etc, etc, so not a worn part) noticed last night it WASN'T happening under braking, so led me to think it might be something caliper related

took the wheel off this morning and found this play on the caliper, definitely the same noise, so is the steady spring worn (do they wear out?) or is the angled metal piece that the spring pushes onto bent? I had the calipers overhauled and s/s pistons fitted, the company that did them also zinc coated them, but the spring looks original

Not great videos (sorry)

Anyone come across this same problem and what did you do?

Thanks in advance!

I think I had the same rattle on one of my cars - drove me nuts!

I can't remember if it was ever fixed or just went rusty or was gunked up with grease. Hopefully someone who knows a better fix will be along shortly...

You'll need to get the welder out I'm afraid, see here: http://www.saab-v4.co.uk/speedball/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3697

Left is worn, right is good:

It's an easy fix if you can weld though.

The wear in Melle's photo is significant to ensure the pads locate correctly, but also important to check the wear at the top of the arm where it has the other half of the calliper slide back and forth and ensuring that the spring tensioned slider is free to move on the pillar. I too have had to weld the ledges on both side for the calliper where the pads locate and file them square.

Yes, you're right Woody. Both halves also wear where they meet; I was looking for a photo to illustrate but couldn't find one in my archive.

Also the swivel pin can wear and cause issues. The pin kits have been hard to find for some time..does anyone know a source?

I am afraid that the pin kits is not available from me either. They are not sold from the supplier as separate parts anymore. I guess that they can not justify making them for people rebuilding calipers at home when their own business is rebuilding calipers...

Can anyone find the measurements needed for the pins? I am happy to investigate manufacture as I have a number of contacts in that industry in a number of places in the world.

Does anyone have a spare pin and spring, even one that might be normally binned so that I can draw or use as a sample?. Remember I haven't yet got my own car home to Tamworth yet!

Rhys, It's more than just a pin and a spring. I can't find a pic of the parts, Stefan, do you happen to have one handy?
