This is a rainy bank holiday thread for nerds!

There are several markings on the block and the heads, but most are (as far as I can tell) not significant for V4 owners (see for discussions e.g. http://www.saab-v4.co.uk/speedball/topic.asp?topic_id=33195&whichpage=1 and http://www.saab-v4.co.uk/speedball/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6166.). However, I just learnt from a Dutch Capri V4 manual what the "A" on the block and heads means. Apparently all 1.5 and 1.7 V4s blocks and heads are marked with an "A", and so are 2.3 and 2.8 V6 engines, to indicate a ø90mm bore. 1.2/ 1.3 V4s and 2.0 V6s with their ø84mm bores are marked with a "C".

In a recently acquired NOS block I noticed "1,5" markings next to all the bores. The crank was missing and I can't make much of the engine number, so not sure what this means.

"444746" looks like the Ford part number for the block and I guess "FW" means "Ford Werke"/ "Ford Works". Never seen this on other blocks, but to be honest I've never paid much attention to it either.

What markings have you found on engines?

Great info. Have I got to strip my engines down again? Should have made notes when they were in bits.
