Hi All,
Can anyone give some advice on a rust problem I have on the offside rear wheel house.
Exactly in the location of the shaded in "No5" and in the boot where the shaded dots are in the below diagram.
Wheelhouse- came across this area and thought it would just be surface as other areas I found in the foot well, but not the case started to wire brush and found it had gone through and will require a patch. It looks to be double skinned. Is this the case?
I am also a bit concerned as the whole of the car has been Waxoyled or similar and I could do without a fire.has anyone done work in this location?
The second area in the boot,I haven't dared to look at yet but I'm guessing it may be a leaking rear window seal.
I will add some photos when it stops raining and I can take the cover off her.

I replaced a bit of metal in that area last year, it's not double skinned. There are some photos in my 96 thread: http://www.saab-v4.co.uk/speedball/topic.asp?topic_id=31068

Thanks Melle, you "Master of Understatement" - a bit of metal indeed. You have done a great job of it.
I had a poke about this evening and took a couple of photos which are attached.
It was the way the metal had laminated through rusting, which gave me the impression that it may be double skinned.
It looks like the usual story of moisture behind bituminous underseal.
The section in the boot, which I have only scratched at the moment is not going to be too bad(I hope) but don't want to start working on too many fronts at once and I ll have the rear screen out first.

Doesn't look too bad, I think you caught it just in time. Keep a close eye on the areas around the captive nuts for the wings, looks like they've been treated already? They rot out on all 96s, rubbish design... (Or maybe we shouldn't complain too much after nearly half a century; when did you last see, say, an Austin 1100??)

That's a job I've been putting off for a while as well... also need to do the front screen surround and smarten up some ugly old bulkhead/ air box repairs.

Forget my question below, I've just seen the posting about Photobucket, in the Idle Chat section. I see my photos in older postings have also now disappeared. Time to move across to Flickr....

Andy

Why can't I see the photos?.
Just a message, in the posting, saying " Please update your account to allow 3rd Party Hosting".
Below it says "For important info go to photobucket.com/P500"
