| I've looked in the manual and found nothing. The '73 I had, had obvious tow points under the front and back of the car, the '69 has none. What is it safe to hook a tow rope to on the 69 if I have to move it? Does anybody know?
Thank you. |

As I understand it, these were for strapping cars down for export by sea and never intended as towing points - unless anyone knows different ?

| A section taken from an early owners manual:
'TOWING HOOK As an extra accessory a towing hook can be supplied to take a towline. The hook is hooked onto the lower edge of the bumper at one overrider and can be used both at the front and the back. If there is no hook available, towing forward can be carried out by taking the tow-line around one of the lower control arms just inside the shock absorber mounting'
I have always understood that the purpose welded brackets on the later V4's was indeed for towing and I have used them so on many occasion, without damage or problems. From memory I seem to recall reading about them in an owners manual with a depiction indicating as such.

| That is very interesting especially as I have recently bent one trying to start a V4 by towing. Makes sense that they are for strapping cars down in transit but I had always assumed they were for towing! | |

| My '70 96 doesn't have towing eyes either, so I've knocked up brackets that bolt onto the bumper brackets. They work with M10 lifting eyes which sit just under the bumper over riders, they work great for towing with a rope. I also made a detachable cross bar with an eye for towing with a rigid bar, I mainly use it for pushing the car onto the lift with a tractor if needed.

| I wouldn't recommend the bumper method- used this once as no other option at the time. Ended up with a twisted bumper iron. I have a U bolt/exhaust clamp made (with a load spreader/plate at the back) ready to attach under the front bumper. I have a square No potential on, so would be hidden from view. | |
