I know there have been many posts over the years re clutch issues and I have been trying to digest them all.

The options as I see them are as follows:

1 Buy a competition rated diaphragm clutch circa £600
2 Buy a Sachs clutch (£150-£350)and have 1mm skimmed off the flywheel.

Are these the only practical options?
Is there now a consensus on what the most straightforward option is for replacement is for road use?

Regards

would this work? seems cheap enough and side steps the "bad batch" Sachs issues

Thanks for the reply Matt.
Iv'e bought that plate.
The thing is,even Scandix are still saying that 1mm has to be removed from the flywheel for the Sach clutches which they have for sale at the moment.
Cheers

3 is to take the friction plate apart and re-rivet it correctly.

I had a faulty clutch on the shelf for quite a few years, before realising it was riveted the wrong way around. I have access to a big lathe so I removed some material from the centre of the flywheel and gave the friction surface a skim as well:

Thanks Melle,
That's what Scandix say to do to the Flywheel.
Does this mean all Sachs clutch plates of this type are incorrectly constructed. I suppose it must.

This is a known issue since 2010 and it looks like they never sorted it. My clutch was a LUK, I suppose they're the exact same item as F&S/ Sachs but in different packaging. The parts are even marked "F&S".

I believe that if you skim the friction surface you have to also skim the outer bolt surface by the same amount otherwise the clamping force is reduced. Is this correct? I think a 4mm depth has been mentioned?

Most clutches need shimming for the pressure release plate to sit correctly, this would only get worse should you machine the bolt surface. I only cleaned up the friction surface, took off 0.2mm max.
