| Thanks for all your inputs guys. I am in fact going down to Cumbria with my wife for a night in Windermere tomorrow, and pick up a rubber bumper tow bar from a chap in Cockermouth, on the way back on Wednesday.
If anyone wants a 95 tow bar, I've got one!

| Going for a steam cruise on Lake Windemere Andy? I think there's a motor museum around there as well?

Yep we did the cruise. Fabulous, we've done it before so knew what to expect. I didn't get to the Motor Museum this time, but I've been there before. It is as you suggest, a great wee museum.
In "Pedantic" mode here - it's not Lake Windermere, it's just "Windermere". "Mere" already means a body of water. Old English/Anglo Saxon. It manifests itself in modern German (possibly Dutch as well??) as "Meer" the sea.

| ... and the rest of the name is nothing to do with the wind. Windermere is from the old Norse for 'lake of (the man called) Vinandr' ... so now you know (I wonder if he had a towbar for his 96)!

| Mornin' Deggsie.
Aye, place names are rarely what they seem in this country!
Especially with the linguistic influences that these islands have seen, from the old pre-Roman Brittonic languages, Latin, to Gaelic, Norse, Anglo-Saxon, and Norman French.
Helped a chap in Strathaven put a new staring motor in his 96 yesterday. Man is that lower bolt a bitch to get at!!!!!
Got a tow bar though. Andy

Yes, of course!

Confusingly, "meer" means "lake" in Duch and "zee" is "sea".
I've always meant to go to Windermere since seeing it in one of the late Fred Dibnah's wonderful programmes years ago. Plan is to go to the Lake District this summer!

| Melle Lake district is a beautiful place, but don't go in summer. Wall to wall humanity!! You need to go in early spring (avoiding Easter weekend of course), or mid to late Autumn.

| Exact dates to be decided upon, but we're going with my girlfriends folks and summer seems to work best for them.

| Does anyone want the tow bar shown in the photo?, which it would seem is for a 95.
