Thanks! These look home made to me; which gives me the idea I may have a go at making a set at some point. I'm sure I can find some pieces of pipe of the right diameter in our scrap pile.
The picture does show the correct Saab compressor. With this compressor you also require an unwinding tool (a approx 600mm heavy duty thread with 2 cup bearings and crank handle). The other type available (again, genuine Saab) is more a sissor type affair which usually involves removal of the wing. You can trust this type of spring removal and it is much safer than using 2 standard removers. The one shown will not slip around the coil thus saving your head from decapitation.

I have studied the picture against an actual official Saab one and find that the picture shows the spring seat support is tapered at an angle (very difficult to duplicate one would suspect and identicle to the genuine article). Homemade or not and a little beat-up due I think to scrapping against the inner wing , is one I would rather have and trust than the run of the mill Halfords type. I love your unwinding tool Melle, fantastic and clever, very similar to the Saab one.
