Hi,
Anyone know if you can buy new dipsticks anywhere? Had a look on Burtons website and can't see them.
I have (I think) six engines in total and one functioning dipstick...
Cheers

Most V4 engines I buy come without a dipstick, I always wonder why! (sorry, I don't have any spares...)

Beware when buying Ford dipsticks. They can look VERY similar but vary in length. That means incorrect oil level. They are stamped with a Ford logo and part number. I suspect that if everyone here posted the number of theirs you would find more than one has the wrong one. Please post a few numbers guys to find which one is right. Some years ago at the Enfield jumble, I found 3 new ones which were all slightly different length but looked right. Didn't buy because I didn't know the number of mine.

You need Saab part no. 88 12 026/ Ford 11 444 294; they're only stamped with the Ford PN and either "Ford" or "FoMoCo"(see pic in link below). This dipstick is also used in some Fords that have V4s with the same sump. Ford V4s with a "reversed" sump have a longer dipstick, which looks completely different and doesn't fit Saab V4s. However, there are V6 dipsticks that look remarkably like the ones used in our V4s, but are indeed different lengths.

This is probably a silly question, but.. if new alternatives are available can someone (like me) take measurements off a known one that folk could then transfer to their new non original?

Of course, I've done that for one of my previous engines.

Both dipsticks I have are Ford Part No 11 444 294 and I'm pretty sure the one in the 96 is original to the car.
I decided to weld the broken one which was simple enough and then just filed the excess to allow the top seal to end up in the same place as on the good one.

I managed to snap my dipstick (oo er missus), right where the steel ferrule sits; they appear to be a very brittle, high carbon steel. I carefully marked off the position of the ferrule, and welded mine up with good results.
