I am tired of the struggle to get the wheels on with this "daft" bolts system the 96 has, and would love to have a couple of short threaded bars that I could screw into two diametrically opposite bolts holes on the hubs, to aid putting the wheels on.
I currently use a large phillips head screw driver that does help a bit, but two short 9/16" UNC pieces of threaded bar would work much better.

I never thought it would be hard to find 9/16"UNC threaded bar, but it is turning into a mission. Tried about 3 places now....

Anyone got any ideas?

I had the same problem and use a 4" x 9/16"UNC bolt with the head sawn off (and a slot cut in the top for a screwdriver, in case it sticks). One at the top of the drum is sufficient to hang a soccerball on.
May be easier to get bolts than threaded bar ?

Have you tried https://www.westfieldfasteners.co.uk/index.html ?

Thanks, I had thought of that, but have really struggled to find anything in 9/16" UNC thread.

Westfield seem to be the same as others, they jump from 1/2" UNC, to 5/8"UNC.

Regards

I don't think you delved far enough into the Westfield site.
True they don't show any in A2, but they do list part-threaded 9/16" bolts in A4 Stainless and BZP Steel - a bit pricey if you only want one, but at least they've got them !
You need to click on the A4 or BZP-G5 tabs to see the sizes available in those materials,
(see https://www.westfieldfasteners.co.uk/A4_ScrewBolt_HexHd_UNCoarse_THRpart_0.5625.html or
https://www.westfieldfasteners.co.uk/BZP-G5_ScrewBolt_HexHd_UNCoarse_THRpart_0.5625.html )

Slainte !
Derek

Paul.
Thanks mate, I got a pair of 9/16" UNC bolts from an outfit call Margnor Fasteners Ltd.
I'll cut the heads off, and they'll do the job nicely I hope.

I have just located a supplier who has enough for 4 sets (2 each) 4" bolts, so, if anyone wants some, first 3 people in can have the ones I don't want. I'll cut the heads off and slot for a screwdriver. Cost will be what they cost me plus postage.

I have made a small refinement, as well as screwdriver slot in the end, I have drilled across them for a "tommy" bar 6 mm. I guess tere could be a cut in the thread to make a truly multi tool and then you would have a thread cleaner too!
Cost is £8 per pair posted 1st class.
