In the process of reinstalling my rebuilt engine, the question came up about whether I had a "flywheel guard plate".

I can honestly say, I have never seen one of these in any of the V4s I have owned (see item 7 in the diagram) !
I suspect it is one of those 'too difficult to fit' items that frequently gets forgotten or left off.

Has anyone got one (installed or spare) ?

yep got one and yes it often gets forgotten. In fact if you forget to remove it before you try and split the eng/gearbox it causes an awful lot of head scratching why the engine won't come out!!

I think it is known as the half-moon tin ware

Most Fords have a full guard, even more awkward when splitting engine and box. I've never seen the small plate Saab used; I'd be interested in having one for my V4 engine parts collection, but I wouldn't fit it as I don't really see the point.
