I have acquired a grey dash from a '68 car with the intention of fitting it into a '72 which, as you would expect, currently has the later black dash.
Apart from having to extend a few electrical cables, am I likely to experience any difficulties?

I've done this with a '69 dash in my '74 95.

There was quite a lot of head-scratching on my part, but I got there in the end. Although I found the relevant wiring diagrams (thanks to Melle's website), it really helped to change the diagram into colour (that way I didn't have to keep referring to the list to see what colour '44' was!). Also, tracking down a car with the same dash in place and taking some photos, helped work out how it should look.

The tricky part and the 'point of no return' was cutting the wires to the round plug to the '74 combined fuel/temp gauge and splitting them off to the separate gauges.

You might need a different speedo cable for the earlier speedo.

Here are some of the threads that touched on the dash swap...

And having the following diagrams really helped too...

Good luck, I hope I haven't put you off!

Let us know how you get on,

Simon

Thanks very much Simon.
Another member of this forum has done a very good colour wiring diagram which I have printed off as it is so much easier to follow than those in various manuals.Yours seem to be tailored to this particular job though. I did wonder about the speedo cable...
