| I too have a question! Is there a level where there has to be a residual amount of fuel in the tank to actually get any pick up? I'm saying this badly! If there is not enough fuel does that give a problem, more than for example 5 litres needed to even pick up? |

| I think there is a little "sump" where the pick up tube sits in the tank, meaning any remaining fuel should be in there as the level gets low. I am not sure how much fuel and this assumes the car is level. Sorry, a vague answer but hopefully someone else will know for sure. | |

| Question is because I have had the tank out and internally cleaned, now no fuel coming through, about4 litres. I'm about to hit the shed and see what I can. | |

| I think I'll fire the guy who put the tank in, and neglected to put the fuel line on at the "olive" joint. Wundumfukka. (Oh that's me) | |

| Why Chris? I have already had the tank out, and having done a fair few in the last 50 + years of mucking round with cars, boats and motorbikes I have a good cleaning method. Issues were two fold. One I hadn't hooked the line back on (Wundum****a was responsible for that) Two was asking about residual level (Stevebod answered that) Lines are clear and clean, internally the tank is as good as they come, TBH it was very good when I went into it ) | |

| Hi Rhys I had the same problem once it was the fuel pump try a bottle of fuel under the car straight on to the fuel pump see if the car runs ok that way if it does then that eliminates the fuel pump

| Reading this reminds me... I changed the flexible fuel line from the tank to the metal tubing under the rear seat.
Was careful to tighten everything up afterwards, but a smell of petrol builds up in the car when it’s sat for any length of time. That never happened before.
I couldn’t find any obvious leaks, but I suspect the olive joint between the tank itself and the nut that joins to it.
Does anyone have a tip for getting a better seal? PTFE tape maybe?
Joe. | |

| Well, back to my original question, I can confidently say 4 litres is marginal for picking up from the tank on level ground. More fuel problem gone. | |

| Joe. I think (though I'm not certain), that this is a compression seal, where the force of tightening, squeezes the olive into a chamfered seat. ie the seal is NOT made on the thread, so using PTFE tape is not going to fix the problem properly. If it's an olive compression seal, the thread on the nut will be parallel, as opposed to tapered.
PTFE tape, and other types of thread seal, only really work on tapered threads, like NPT. It "may" give a temporary fix, but it'll just come back.
Rhys. Interesting to know that the "dead volume" in these tanks is as much as 4 litres. That's nearly 30 miles of driving. Had I to guess, I'd have guessed 1 or 2 litres.
