I think this is a vastly overrated issue. Countries like Finland, France, Germany and NL have had E10 for quite a few years now and I've never heard of it causing anyone any major problems (I've certainly never had any issues with it with my cars).
I'll second Melle's comment (Canada has had ethanol in it's fuel forever) I've not had any issues, I've heard Japanese motorbikes have hoses that disintegrate but I can't confirm this
If I can add a little to this topic. It would seem that ethanol can eat alloy over time. If you leave the carbs. full over winter,they can look O.K. but the inside can be quite badly corroded. It is, however, quite easy to remove ethanol from petrol.
