Yep, hoping to bring it to Swedish Day.

Thanks John, Paul does know what he's doing with a welder and as you say, solves some tricky jobs. I would have liked him to do more, but it was only booked in for a week.

I'll do what I need to do to it and book it in again for some other bits that need doing.

Cheers John.

Spent some time rummaging around the pickup bed this weekend, firstly to take out the fuel tank and find out where the smell is coming from - think I may have found the culprit...

Also, found some nasty looking holes in the bodywork...

Not a lot I can do to fix those right now, so thought I'd tackle something I CAN work on...

this was pretty rough and took about 2 hours to attack it with a wire brush on a drill to get it reasonably smooth

just enough time to add some primer before I packed up for the day

Just need to score a Rover Hurricane grey rattle can and I should be done. Ready for a brand new Varning sticker!

Looks like you won't need the pair of cases from me now. I had no one approach me at Cranleigh so my pair still up for grabs at £10 plus postage.

Good luck with the rust. Maybe your bro can work some magic.

Hi Derek, I did think about doing them both up and selling one of them on.

Let's see if you get any other takers though...

Hi Simon,

Door looks great - how did you do it?

Rust shouldn't be a problem with your brother on the case - Malbrad's do some repair panels now that could be a good time saver.

Cheers

Good idea, the refurbed one would surely come with a Varning sticker.

That's what I thought Derek!

I can't find your post where you originally mentioned this, but do you know what type of gaskets sits between the two sections?

I've got the rubber section that sits between the heater box and firewall and that seems OK, but when I opened mine up, here was just a gluey residue that has since been cleaned off!

Best paint match if you are going for the original colour is Rover Hurrican Grey..can be found in rattle cans at Halfords

As with yours mine just a bead of the grey mastic. Some thin double sided butyl strip would do the job neatly if the two surfaces are absolutely flush otherwise a run of what is now sold as alternative Dum-Dum will fill the gaps OK.
Stainless self tappers are a neat custom touch.

Derek, don't suppose you know the size of the self-tappers, so I can order some online?

Thought I'd take the wing off, to see if there's any hidden holes etc. Just about every bolt was rusted solid and the rear edge was riveted on - which was an interesting touch! Can someone remind me (or even better - show me) what SHOULD be here...

I also need the 'washer' that sits around the filler neck (that the rubber surround mounts to) - has anyone got one?

Can't help with the self-tapper size Simon, sorry. I managed to make up enough for a set out of my screws collection. As I don't have a 96 now I can't compare them but they are likely the same as the screws for the Amazon which has a similar heater box. I've got one of those painted up for re assembly.
