Hi everyone. I am restoring my Saab 95 and am about to take the engine out. I already disconnected everything except for the front shafts on the wheels.
How do i disconnect them? Should i just pull the engine out and the shafts will pop out or should i disassemble both front steering knuckles to pull the shafts before removing the engine?
Are you pulling the engine and trans out together? Or separately? If you pull them separately, once the engine is out of the way, you can undo the rear transmission support, and have enough play side to side to get one inner axle joint out, and then the other, without any need to undo anything on the wheel end of the driveshaft.
Try and get the rollers inside the the drive - one vertical and one horizontal. This appears to make life easier. There is enough sideways movement to allow the shafts to drop out without removing any suspension components.wWatch out for the cup roller dropping off and don’t forget the speedo cable.
Hi, I prefer to undo a lower ball joint on one side which allows one shaft to move sideways. I've done it both ways and the time it takes to jack it up, remove a wheel and undo two bolts definitely makes life easier with the reduced amount of heavy wiggling needed! Cheers
