I'm in the process of replacing the outer sills on my 96 as they have been patched several times, and are holed through the centre of the jacking points. It seems to me that the jacking points are just another rust trap, I've thought about putting some captive nuts in the new sills and having removable jacking points to allow regular removal for corrosion assessment/treatment, but come to the conclusion to do away with them altogether and use either a bottle jack or a trolley jack. Scissor jacks aren't exactly the safest anyway...
Also considering, maybe, deleting the mud flap bracket and making up some kind of wheel arch liner which would offer a greater degree of protection to the tender under-wing area. Does anyone know of a (plastic?) wheel arch liner from a lesser vehicle that could be adapted to fit without too much modification?

There was a Finnish firm that did aluminium wheel arch liners for the 96, someone might have a set kicking about? My girlfriend's uncle used round plastic mortar tubs cut in half on his Vauxhall Victor.

Unfortunately aluminium leads us into differential corrosion territory, and I don't want to go there. I much prefer the mortar mortar bucket, but I have heard of MGB wheel arch liners being modified for various other vehicles

Ive got a set of aluminium ones tucked away somewhere.

Should be possible to make plastic copies. Personally I'm not concerned about aluminium corrosion. Coat of paint and it will be fine even in a coastal emvironment.

They dont look the snuggest fit though, so may create water traps behind the liner with all the attendent rust that brings.

If there is a good barrier between dissimilar metals, then corrosion should not be a problem, but I have seen self tapping screws used which bridge that gap...
Both the method of attachment and the potential for water traps needs a bit of thought
