Having problems getting the inner circlip out on my brake master cylinder, It's the Lockheed flat top one with the 6 bolt flange although mine has a pipe up to the remote reservoir. Even if I get it apart it may be badly scored so does anybody know of where to get a recon one? There is a new (old stock) one on ebay but the outlets are on the wrong side mine has the pipes on the left looking at the bulkhead from the front i.e. right hand side of car.

Do you have a good set of circlip pliers? I find the ones with interchangeable tips are rubbish, I have several different fixed tip Knipex ones. I've never had an issue getting the circlips out of BMCS, 90 degree pliers often work better than straight ones. Worth soaking the circlip in penetration oil though, they can get rusty and stick in the groove quite badly.

Any half decent machine shop should be able to bore a BMC and sleeve it with brass or stainless to get it back to size, there are also companies that specialise in this sort of work. Re the NOS one: pipes on the wrong side is not a big deal if there's enough space around the BMC, just make some longer pipes.

I've ground my circlip pliers down to make them thinner and have managed to squeeze the circlip (so it's not stuck) but haven't enough grip on it to pull it out. I'll try and find some longer and thinner pliers but decent tool shops seem non existent these days only got Machine Mart. You are correct the interchangeable tip ones are useless, I threw mine away after the first attempt at using them!

Might have a problem with the pipes exiting on the other side due to the close proximity of the clutch master cylinder. Anyway I'll look for some longer pliers. Scandix do a new BMS but cost is 500 plus Euros which seems to me to be excessive!!

Sent it off to Malbrads for a complete rebuild - have plenty of other jobs to do, and they can get it sleeved which it probably needs.
