My 1967 Saab V4 has a issue when it’s hot , when you turn off the car there is a bubbling sound then the water leaks out the overflow pipe by the Radiator cap, car runs at normal temperature and cooling system is full, it’s had in the past new radiator and new water pump, can not seem to understand why it does this ?? Any one else had this issue?this is the early rad wit no expansion tank on the side of it .
Agree with Derek. I think when you turn the engine off the engine actually gets hotter for a short time because water is no longer circulating. With a loose radiator cap this can cause loss of water.

+1 to that. Leave space for at least half a litre of coolant. If you do that you may not need the new cap or thermostat. New cap easy if it looks suspect. Soak thermostat cover nuts/bolts with penetrant a few times before trying to remove them if you've not had them off recently. Snapping off the studs is not unusual.
