Hello guys,
I have to change the bearings of my alternator but had no luck finding their size or standard reference. The Saab number seems to be useless there. Does anyone have any info about this? My car is a 1979 model equipped with a Bosch 55 ampères unit.
Nice weekend to all.

I recently overhauled two starters and found diagrams with part numbers at www.bosch-classic.com I ordered all the parts a I needed through eBay, much cheaper than Bosch dealers. Bosch sometimes used funny sizes (neither metric nor imperial), probably to force you to buy their over-priced parts directly from them. If you have a lathe you can turn standard Oillite bushes to size.

Thank you very much, Melle. You're always so helpful! I'll have a look at this site right away. Incidentally, I just removed my front silencer box and I can't believe that this can be done in a different (and simpler!) way than those given both in the shop manual and the Haynes.
Nice weekend to all.

Hello there,
Just a little follow up on this topic.
The Bosch site is no longer of any help now. But, you can contact them at classic@bosch.com. They've been very helpful and provided me with the right numbers.
Here they are for a Bosch K1 14V 55 A alternator:
· 1 120 905 525 equals to 6203 2RS/C3

· 1 120 905 102, replaced by 1 120 905 099, equals to 6201 2RS/C3
Nice day to all and merry Christmas.

Thanks for the info.

Can you describe how you removed the front silencer though?

Thanks,
Simon

Very useful info, I've never had to do an alternator yet, so handy for future reference. 6201 and 6203 (dimensions) C3 (clearance) ball bearings are commonly available and cheap. Shame the Bosch site no longer works, it was a great source.

You're welcome,Simon.
Thé exhaust is a whole story in itself.
The old one had been banged, modified, and fitted the car very poorly. It was a Bosal one and I would not recommend it to anyone. Even the bracket for the two rubber mounts under the rear floor was wrong. When I took it out, I was surprised to notice that the front silencer came out easily without any additional parts to remove (hence my comment!). Once the right pipe was out of the car, the left pipe followed without too much hassle.
But this method proved impractical when installing the new part, and I had to follow the shop manual, except for the removal of the starter or its cables.
Just for the record, the new parts fit the car perfectly and were purchased from Skandix.
Nice day to all.

Thanks, Melle.
To be totally accurate, I need to mention that Bosch only provided their own numbers. I found myself the standard references. I'll confirm later if they really fit the car.
About the site, its shutdown might be only temporary. At least, they still provide a replacement service.
Nice evening to all.

Hello folks,
Just a quick follow-up to confirm that the said bearings actually fit the alternator. Not a trcky job but you have to be cautious when using the puller to remove the front end drive. Also, my alternator is equipped with an external brush holder not mentioned in the shop manual. It is better to remove it first, before separating the two halves of the machine.
Nice day to all.
