| This is to gauge interest for the reproduction of SAAB Ronal alloy 5 stud wheel hubs. (Fit 96 &Sonett) This is the black hub cap that slots in from the outside with sprung tabs. ( please note this is not for Highgate wheels and similarly Compomotive wheels, the hubs are NOT interchangeable).
There maybe only about ten sets of the original SAAB Ronal Alloy in the UK so I am not expecting mass production. An original hub will be scanned professionally to produce a CAD design that will be 3d printed. I also need to sort the spring holding the tabs out and a black SAAB logo label to go onto the hub.
The more made the cheaper they get apparently. It is only to show interest at this stage if you want a spare or two. A final decision can be made later but I need 5 so I will be going ahead. If anyone has any links to companies that can help in production I would be interested. Thanks.

| The first quote has come through. £497 posted for 10 caps. I am happy with that but will wait for the other quotes to come in. These caps are unfinished, just very lightly shot blasted which is why the price is low compared to a finished product.
The more ordered the cheaper it gets. I will look into a SAAB badge that is identical to the original and wire to hold the tabs out. I am going to keep this offer going for 10 days as from today so if you are interested please let me know. A copy of the quote can be passed to you...

| The second quote has come in at near exactly the same price but you can,t hear the fella over the phone, he messed up Emails, didn't,t scroll down far enough and quoted me for the wrong number  and there is no information on the product/material/process as opposed to the first company which give you everything.
Just to add. The caps will be sandblasted and will need spraying for a black finish. I am resisting the urge to put an order in for myself. The quote has been left open for 28 days but as I have heard nothing notification and funds need to be with me by 31st October. Once numbers are known a final price can be worked out. The price won,t go down much on numbers apparently however as it is 3d printed not moulded.

| You can of course organise your own production of hub caps at a later date with permission from Melle for the kind loan of his CAD drawings. | |

| I would never spend that sort of money on centre caps (and I wouldn't want Ronals even if they were free!), but we all have our own budgets and priorities I suppose?
What material will they be Chris? ABS?

| Nylon Melle, innov, pa 1550, seemed to be the same conclusion from four places.
Yes we have been through the topic of budgets more than once. We have only ever paid for a meal once in the marque at a SOC National for instance over 40 years of going to the events! People begrudge paying £40 for a nice part they really want for their car then blow more than that on a night out. The mind boggles. MY wife and I are VERY frugal in all aspects of life. If we go out we make a flask and make sandwiches. My mates spend £7 on just a bacon roll and coffee. We drive around in £1000 cars whilst others lose twice that in a year on their cars, we spend £500 on a family holiday, others burn thousands. We cook our own meals whilst some other families spend a small fortune on weekly shops let alone the cost of MacDonalds etc. We rarely go to the pub and I can,t remember the last time I wasted money in a restaurant. MY IPad was £75 second hand off a mate, I don,t wear a watch and my old Samsung phone is fine for what I want it for. Whilst we have friends who cannot afford a full mortgage for their own house we have done very well with our property as we don,t chuck money around like others who have better incomes than us. Paying £75 for a hotel is shocking to me, or entry fee to a show, or cinema... mad.
My mate is going bankrupt next week and he has lived on his own with his mum for 15 years and as a designer earns £8000 a month, but he blew it all on new BMW,s, motorbikes and eating out everywhere. He racked up debts he now cannot afford to pay off and has lost his work as he is lazy, idiot, few have sympathy for him.
I would of course prefer not to spend £50 on a hub cap but I can recoup that money compared to most others easily in a few days... wink! My SAAB is really important for me, I get so much pleasure from it, even if it is just sitting in a garage, I have known SAAB 96's all my life, they are in my blood. When I was a kid SAAB Ronals were the ultimate accessory. Besides on the flip side I am doing a mint Defender tomorrow in clear coat underseal, it will take no more than two hours and I make £525 after materials etc. It,s dangerous to think like that however as that money is for living off, great when the work comes in but there can be lean times as I don,t advertise etc. I am at the age where I am taking it easier... at work anyway! Undersealing costs using Dinitrol etc start at about £500 and a few charge up to £900 as does a guy 10 miles away from me. They don't all take so little time of course.
We all spend out more than perhaps we should in walks of life folks... mine is on my car. Oh an ex client who is 26, lives with his parents and has a lower paid job in an airport spent £140,000 on rebuilding a Supra from scratch with engine upgrade mods. It took years and a lot of overtime and credit and the car is now costing a fortune in a posh car storage place that rarely sees the light of day... now that is nuts... especially when it's worth maybe 40K.
Wow what a ramble, it's my birthday and I have had a few beers... at home of course lol!

| Thanks mate, having just said how easy my job is I have had two bookings today. A BMC Farina and a Frogeye sprite... you take the good metal with the bad Lol! It will be like working on baked beans cans compared to SAAB engineering.
