Putting the steering wheel back on and noticed it's cracked. If you look at the fixing holes for the horn cover, you can see the cracks. They go all the way round but there's no movement. Is this a common problem? , Now how do I get the images to show....
Yes, a common problem with this type of steering wheel. It's an MOT fail as far as I know but a) no tester will ever notice it and b) there's enough metal in the wheel to hold everything together (hence no flex), so I wouldn't worry about it.
Never did like the 'sports' steering wheels. Even though I may have been driving for years with a cracked wheel without knowing it, once I knew it, I had to replace it; imagine driving along and the steering wheel comes off in your hands! Sprayed up the replacement with ordinary spray paint; seems to work. Cracked one sent for scrap.
It's only the outer covering that is cracked, the wheel structure will still be sound. They can be reconditioned if you can find someone with the right moulds.
