I want to get the bearing play in my clutch release fork sorted out...

Video of play in lever/bearing
https://flic.kr/p/2mgi9kj

Thought I would get both fixed at the same time, but comparing them, the upper arm on the one on the left (spare one) looks very bent - compared to the one on the right (from my car)...

I was told that tig welding and then reaming the hole would be the way to go, I suppose the alternative would be to open up the hole and add a collar for the bearing mounts?

I agree, the left one is bent.

I've fixed several with a MIG welder and a file. I do have reamers, but it's just not worth the hassle of lining things up etc. If you insert a straight rod (something like a pencil would work) in the release bearing holes and compare it to the "hinge" rod (look over both at the same time as if lining something up with the horizon), it's pretty easy to check if they're parallel. Beware of the different types of clutch release bearing, also see your earlier thread: http://www.saab-v4.co.uk/speedball/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6157

Find some details on how you can check release bearing alignment with a tool I made (or a hose clamp and a piece of stiff wire) in my 96 project thread: http://www.saab-v4.co.uk/speedball/topic.asp?topic_id=31068&whichpage=2

Interesting that with the left hand arm straightened out the lever length will still be more than the right hand one. The would mean less movement of the bearing for a given movement of the slave. Or am I seeing things? The yokes are certainly different.
