Hello,

It is very likely that I will want to replace the current in situ steel coolant pipes on the car; one of the pipes looks poorly. I note that Malbrad do s/s pipes, being just under £400 all-in.

Are there any other alternatives, such as copper or have folk used other materials to do the job. £400 seems a lot of money and the price has increased dramatically since advertised in the SOC magazine in April 2020.

Any info greatly appreciated and I did have a check through the archive section on the subject.

Many thanks.

Richard.

Small plating shops come and go. Mine has gone. It was a 1 man shop and the guy got his dad back in to do my pipes. Any shop that does zinc plating will acid dip the bits and pieces before plating. Zinc plating is usually done by weight and although I took in some other bits in as well, including nuts and bolts, I still had to pay the minimum charge. £35 from memory but that was a long time ago, 2000? It's not labour intensive like chrome plate.

Hello Derek,

Many thanks for your response, can you recall the company you used for the acid dipping etc ??

Have to agree, £400 is a rip off - looking at the pipes they do not appear that difficult to fabricate and a simple design. The Malbrad price has gone up £70 in 12x months !!

Regards.

Richard.

I had mine zinc plated. The initial acid dip uncovered several small holes in the clamping area due to rust. I soldered them shut without any further problems. £400 is a total rip off.
