Hello,

I have noted a number of 96's with alternative steering wheels - some of which are very nice.

Am considering changing mine at some stage and I will be interested to read what other owners have chosen as alternatives; including size and wheel dish shape.

Thank you.

Richard.

Corrected from "Yes Brexit is creating a lot of issues for those of us trying to export commercially." To "Yes, Brexit is creating a lot of issues for all of us."

I have a Motolita with hub and horn push here, 2 others saying they are interested but no action so far.

Google translate, if you have the app, will automatically translate the pages as the come on screen. It supports most common languages and quite a few unexpected ones. It does a good job on Tradera, you'd think it was the native language. I had to get a Swedish friend to set mine up for me back in the day when there were no auto translate progs besides cut/paste.

As an aside, the wheel linked to shows a Saab boss but that and/or the wheel might not be S&R items. No pic of the SAAB logo on the wheel spoke.

Thanks for the tip, Andy.......... at the moment I'm struggling to register but purely admin & language related !!

Re Melle's point, that is certainly the case but as proved - Melle sent me a package last Thursday and arrived the following Wednesday; not bad going for about 4 working days.

Regards.

Richard.

Everything that's sent to the UK from the EU (and vice versa) needs a customs declaration (with a signature from the sender!). It's not that complicated, but a lot of unnecessary hassle and expense. I've sent a few parcels to the UK from NL recently, and they took about 2-3 days longer than they would have before 1/1/'21, probably due to customs checks. A few EU courier firms have temporarily or indefinitely quit their UK service, and shipping prices from the UK to the EU have skyrocketed.

Be careful about buying on Tradera at the moment.
I bought two 2nd hand rear light lenses on Tradera in December.

It was early January before the sender confirmed that they had been posted. After about 2 weeks, nothing had arrived.
When I contacted the seller, she told me that the lenses had been returned to her, in her words, "because of Brexit".
She told me that she would try again, and send it as a "gift", again, her words.
I'm still waiting.....

Thank you - very useful and some interesting stuff on Tradera; may even be able to learn some Swedish at the same time.

I've taken the plunge and signed up; just waiting for that to go through etc.

Regards.

Richard.

I used the standard wheel for most of my rallies only installing the Moto-Lita late 1975 so it was used on 2 rallies. The SS&R Moto-Lita 99 dished wheel (p/n 15305) that I have in the Troll is 14" (14 3/8in O.D.). The SS&R Moto-Lita V4 wheel (p/n 12401)is 15" (15 3/8in O.D.) The standard wheel is 16" (16 5/8in O.D.).
When I was using the V4 Moto-Lita back in 2010 I found the main beam stalk would foul the wheel. I didn't have this problem in the 1969 rallycar but the wheel was bent when I crashed in 1976. A friend straightened it when we retrieved the car and it may need a little more. The 99 wheel was an easy option.
You do get used to the difference.
The Mountney had a horn push in the centre.

Thank you all for your updates - very useful.

I note that Moto-Lita do a specific boss (F16A) for the 96 (1970 onwards) for about £85 which includes a central horn push.

Just depends on their steering wheel choices - might look at their 14" or 15" option; still have the OE steering rack on the car.

Will be interesting to see how Mountney compare - cheaper obviously.

Plenty to mull-over.

Regards.

Richard.

Betsy67, would be interested to see a pic of column with wheel removed.
Saab list 3 steering column shafts:-
7352966 upto chassis 507018,96; 62059,95 which covers 1967/8 vehicles.
7341464 for same series as above and also ALL markets 96520001+,96 and 95065001 I am unaware of the difference between the two, whether first was slightly narrower??
7352602 was for RHD from ch. 96520001+. 95065001+. Model 1969 from Aug 1968 onwards. Model 68 & 69 shared the same steering wheel with a screw on centre pad, so the hollow column shaft was threaded internally for M10 x 1.75.

I wouldn't have expected there to be difference between LHD & RHD vehicles for the shaft only.
see link for previous enquiry about Moto-Lita bosses:-

Does anyone how the bosses differ.
Bought a boss from quite reputable EBay shop a while ago advertised as All years. Didn’t fit and I returned it with no hassle.
Betsy has the horn wire up the centre of the column and as my user name suggests is a 67.
