Hi all
Cleaned out my radiator expansion bottle again today as it was a NOS about 10 years ago and still quite white and good condition. I was wondering if anyone could re-make these and the windscreen washer bottles maybe by 3D print?
Just a thought

Renault 4s had the wire as well until 1979.

On the Renault 6 is a wire.

A rubber band would do the job very well.

This one fits a lot of Renaults.
You can see it here on a Renault 4. It is being held by a rubber band.

That is quite fat. I asked because some older cars have a similar bottle for the washer reservoir and use a mount that might save you fabricating one. The retainer is often sprung and like an open C. Thumb and 1st finger for example. Citing Volvo again, the early Amazons have this type of mount and maybe the 300 series. I may be able to get a measurement, but what is the mount for a Renault 6 like?

Derek, it is around 150mm.
I don't have the exact dimension, in any case there's plenty of room there.
Next oportunity I will mesure exactly and I'll make a braket for it.

Nice one. What is the diameter of this pot Hector?

My expansion tank was cracked so I looked for the volvo option but is a bit pricey.
I've found another for a quarter of the volvo price. It is the tank from the Renault 6, is a bit lower and thicker but makes the job.
It is only necesary to find a good way of fitting to the bracket, maybe a thick plastic tie is enough.
The bottom conection hose has the same thickness than the original.

Looks like I will have to keep my nerdy preferences to myself :)

If you are that determined to have a genuine one I would do a straight swap for my one and a Volvo one, you pay the postage.

Real men don't drive volvos, I don't think parts are included on that ;)

Depending on the material 3D prints can be "polished", e.g. with acetone, to get rid of the layered appearance. Still, it'll never look like an injection moulded part as Héctor says and it'll be very expensive for what it is. 3D printing certainly has a place in this world, but its use is often overestimated. I doubt anyone but the saddest nerd will notice it if you install a Volvo bottle. ;)

If you want a try I don't mind to model the tank for 3D printing.
I only need the measurements.
But printing the big size of the tanks will be costly.
IMHO The volvo tank fit very well with the original shape of the 96. The 3D printing gives always a bit of slice finishing, different than parts moulded by injection.

Thanks Melle, I have also seen very similar volvo washer bottles but being a nerd about originality sometimes it would be good if we could find a way to re manufacture these items for all in their original form, outside of my expertise though....

3D printing is not really a suitable process for this application imho. You can still get new Volvo Amazon/ P1800 ones, which are near identical only slightly taller, which will be cheaper too.
