Hello there,
It's been a sunny week (at last!) and I've been using the 96 every day. Unfortunately, I noticed that one of the Saab logo on the C-pillar has gone missing. I would not be too surprised if someone had snatched it away. Grrr! Anyway, I ordered a new one but noticed that metal or plastic ones are available. Which one would be the right version for a 1979 model ?
Nice day to all.

Thanks for the confirmation about the plastic ones.
I have installed the new one on the car and it is a perfect fit. I just threaded (M5) the two prongs to use nuts and washers. Once you have removed the elephant ears, this is an easy job. I was quite surprised to find Pozidriv screws, though.
Nice week-end to all.

Original on 1979 was all plastic: black backside with 2 prongs, blue inside with chromed SAAB letters, chrome edge and a clear plastic cover.

The model I got has two prongs on the backside and is intended to be used in place of the old emblem. I still don't know if I I will use some clips or thread the sais prongs, though.
Skandix has the emblem that is supposed to be glued over the old one, but at 59€ each, they are too pricey for me!

The blue zinc emblem is intended to be installed over the original plastic emblem. So you should have the old worm plastic emblem (or bottom part of it) installed in the car and then use for example polyurethane adhesive for bonding. I have this kind of emblems in my 96 and those look good.

But I think they can be installed without the plastic part as well. Just use thicker layer of elastic adhesive for bonding.

Thanks for the confirmation, Melle.
It just came to my mind that my car has TEN Saab emblems. Talk about an incentive for logo snatchers...

Only very early 96s had metal badges, but they looked completely different:

The zinc alloy ones in christophe's picture are aftermarket parts, all the blue OEM badges were plastic.

I'll dig them out and take a look

Does your zinc alloy emblem got a convex backside too? I am concerned about the fitment on the car.

I have a set of the zinc cast ones too, but then found NOS plastic ones so fitted those as they were correct for my model year (71)

the zinc ones you've ordered have the added advantage that they won't separate like the plastic ones!

Thanks for your concern, Matt.
To tell you the truth, I really don't know if it was taken away by somebody or by a bump on the road . In any case, only the transparent cover is missing, The back of the emblem is still on the car. So, I now have a Saab emblem on a white background.
I orderd one of these made of zinc alloy.

But, you can also find this model which seems to be made of plastic

I would have thought plastic for a 79, I've only seen metal badges on earlier models (with the older SAAB logo) but I'm not an expert on this

Sorry to hear someone may have one of your badges as a cheap keepsake
