Hi all,
I havent posted on here for quite a while - been busy working on other (less reliable) Saabs!
I recently purchased a 1973 96V4 which has had a small engine bay fire. Mostly just superficial damage with some melted plastics, but the engine wiring harness forward of the fuse box has been affected.
My question is whether the engine harness back to the fuse box is a separate section, or is it all part of the one loom? If its the latter, anyone know a source for a good used loom?
I'll post some pics in the 'Projects' section shortly.
Any help much appreciated.

There must be a car being broken somewhere here in the UK. Anyone? The loom isn't something that is going to be the first thing to be stripped out and may even go with a scrap shell in the end. Postage and cost of item about the same at a guess. i.e. reasonable. |

Welcome back Drew, good to see that you are still enjoying Saabs down-under. What a mess, I have seen this before on a V4 which was a donor of assorted parts for the Troll. The loom wasn't as badly damaged as yours,
and was transferred into the black Saab I used to have.
The loom is made of three cable networks, front, centre and rear, with assorted cable bunches. The V4 parts book is available on the net to download, or I can send you a pdf.
It is such a long time since I assembled the loom into the Troll, that I can't from memory disseminate where the front part finishes. I would have to go study the loom in the Troll.
I can see the Autosparks loom is expensive, and it looks brilliant on green96V4's project. They might be able to sell you the front section. Don't know if any other forum members have bought one.

Does anyone have a photo of the under-dash connectors where it comes apart? I might get out the old microfiche and see if that gives any clues, Failing that I'll just pull the dash and take a look for myself!

The wiring is simple on these cars, why not make your own loom using Thinwall Wire with a loom binding such as Tesa fabric tape.
In addition the loom becomes bespoke to your requirements with the option to add additional relays if required.

not cheap but identical to the original (even down to the connectors) and they may split one - when I first ordered mine it was missing from the dash back, so they patterned the rest of the loom from my original and only charged me £50 for the extra! |

Thanks, I'll check that! Do you have a link to the new looms? I really only need the engine bay section at most, I'll check the existing to see exactly what state it's in.

Welcome back Drew! That looks a bit of a challenge. Do you know the source of the fire? Heater fan wiring? You'll crack it though.

they do split around the fusebox (there's a couple of large multipin plugs under the dash where the split occurs) so if the dash hasn't been affected you can likely save the back half of the loom
If you can't find a used one, Autosparks do brand new looms, identical to the original
