Well it's finally time to make some space and my much loved 96 needs a new home.
The car is in Aberdeenshire, so I've put a video link at the bottom of this text as I doubt anyone would want to travel just to check it over!
Bought as non runner from garage in Grangemouth in 2009.
Extensively refurbished with a number of modern adjustments to common faults for these models and some personal touches, all of which could be reversed to original condition if desired and Ive commented on these if you like things original.
Heres a summary:
Engine completely rebuilt with new bearings, seals, piston rings, reground valve seats etc. etc.
Flywheel lightened and balanced for quicker pick up under acceleration.
Cylinder heads checked for straightness. No change to compression ratio.
Inlet and exhaust corridors matched to manifolds, de-stepped and deburred. Exhaust ports opened to match to 2 exhaust. All this work is as per Ashcraft/Saab Motorsport guides as appropriate.
Inlet manifold replaced to match a Weber 32/36 DGV carb which is a vast improvement over either the original Fomoco or commonly fitted 34ich. I have the original manifold and a matching 34 ich available separately if desired.
Original pancake filter fitted, so the look is very original and servicing is easy.
Mechanical fuel pump replaced with electrical (original supplied if desired), Malpassi fuel filter/regulator. Armoured fuel lines.
Electric cooling fan.
Electronic ignition.
The clutch operating lever in the bell housing has been rewelded to remove the slot-wear typically found here. New slave cylinder, and master cylinder refurbished. Connecting flexible hose replaced with solid pipe to remove swell and improve feel. Would benefit from a new clutch plate thoughI have one if needed #128521;
Gearbox has been replaced with a lower mileage like for like. It is very good with no whine or vibration. Gear change linkages are slop-free and have new springs and rubbers. Free wheel works perfectly, though I removed the operating rod to avoid accidental use. Rod supplied it s just a split pin to put it back on.
Exhaust system is 2 steel from Jetex, breathes well and sounds lovely.
Front anti-roll bar fitted.
Standard shocks replaced look a little tatty but work fine. New front discs and obviously front pads and rear shoes replaced along with rear brake cylinders. Brake (and clutch) masters and reservoirs serviced and are leak free.
Original steel wheels are fitted with 165 65 16 tyres with a slightly lower profile. Tyres have less than 1,000 miles on them and give more lateral grip.and yes, they clear the exhaust!
Bodywork is resprayed in a creamy white. Close to original colour but showing signs of age and some minor work would really enhance it or just a good t-cut.
There are some rust bubbles in the classic place at the top of one of the rear shock mounts within the boot. Not structurally challenging yet and could be ground out or repaired pretty easily.
There is a little bubbling in places along the bottom of the doors, again not surprising. Screen pillars are however rust free!
There are a couple of cosmetic changes to note: The front grille is from an earlier car with round headlamps giving the car a pleasing look IMO. Rear arches are reshaped into a curve, and rear arch seams have been blended into body. No additional welding used, so all this could be unbolted if really desired.
Rear boot lid cosmetically shaped to suit square number plate. Original chrome boot handle included in sale. Lock was beyond repair and on a whim I fitted a release catch inside the car instead. Works perfectly but easy enough to replace the lock, again only if you really want to!
Original seats have been refurbished in cornflower blue with matching door cards and dark blue carpet. Tatty dash has been covered in carbon fibre effect vinyl, and electrical switches replaced with modern versions. CD player.
Genuine and period SAAB steering wheel with brown leather trim. Head lining is clean and tight.
Bad bits: Bodywork as described, cabin heater fan works but no heat coming through no leaks so may just need a decent flush through. Passenger door catch doesnt work from outside used to, so may just need a strip, lock works fine with key.

Stuff taken off will be included in sale:
Rear boot chrome handle.
Pair of fibreglass front wings need repair
Mechanical fuel pump and rod
Original chrome wing mirrors
Spare clutch master for parts/repair
Free wheel operating rod
The badges
Glove box lock and handle
Ashtrays and mounts
L&R Storage bins
Spare coil
Bumper overriders

I'm looking for 1,500 - probably about half what it has cost, but I'd like it to go to someone who knows what they are looking for so I'll not be going to fleabay until last resort, and then punching for as much as I can in the knowledge that someone there will probably just strip for parts :(

You can see the car on youtube here: https://youtu.be/DfwgUmuF4qg

PM me if interested. Andy "Cantgetinthebl**dygarage"

Oh yeah, just remembered to add that she sailed through an MOT today - exempt of course, but I figured it was worth the money to know. A

That seems incredibly cheap for an MOT'd 96!

Hah! I suppose I risk frightening people off with a cheap price but I am in need of space and the wrong end of the country for many, so unless someone wants to take a long drive in an unknown car, then it's probably a trailer.

And I do recognise that many folk really only want a very original car, and this isn't. Yes, you could put it back to stock relatively easily if you wanted but it all takes space that I don't have.

I'd really like for it to stay on the road, but she needs the right owner so if I can't find one I'll put it to ebay and I guess someone will strip for parts...there's a 200 carb on there for starters!!

I've had a great deal of pleasure from this car, but I haven't put more than 100 miles on it in the last 3 years and that's just not right.

I'm very pleased to say that this car has found a "new" and enthusiastic owner. I hope she will continue to give buckets of fun, and I look forward to seeing her out and about once more!

...and the new owner is....well that's not for me to say
