I purchased this vehicle in 2016 from Peter Wilson (Peter 96 ).

The cars exterior is very tidy with only a few small blemishes, although it would benefit from a machine polish. Good tyres all round.

The interior is very good with new quality carpets and a great head lining. It has a small rip on the passenger seat and a slightly larger one on the rear seat base, both hardly noticeable. The top of the rear seat has the common sun damage. However, there is a loose fitting cover over this.

The engine runs nicely with 40 plus psi oil pressure when hot at tick-over. The gearbox is a little notchy when changing down into second gear. Freewheel worked fine last time I tried it.

I have carried out a number of modifications while in my ownership as listed below:

1) Cheese grater grill fitted

2) Additional electric thermostatic cooling fan

3) Pair driving lights

4) Unleaded cylinder heads purchased from Melle

5) Alloy rocker covers

6) Weber ICH carburettor and K&N filter

7) Hall effect ignition (Melles conversion)

8) Tow-bar, fitted mainly for rear protection

9) Part stainless steel sports exhaust

All mods with the exception of the exhaust can be retrospectively returned to standard as I have all the standard parts.

Not so good aspects of the car:

A previous owner was a little over zealous with underseal and some old welding is not the best in the world, in particular some of the repairs made behind the rear seats. I have not investigated this but will include a photo if required.

As I use the car infrequently it does not have a current MOT but a fresh one will be obtained prior to sale for buyers peace of mind.

I feel I have tried to describe the car as accurately and honestly as possible and am more than happy to photograph any aspects of the car.

Asking price of 5500. Car located just off junction 25 M1.

UPDATE
Due to the lack of interest in my Saab and the price of similar cars for sale.

I have decided to reduce the price to offers around 5500. The car is too good to reduce the price much more.

Hi Barry. I've a 1963 Morris Minor, a 1948 Standard 4/8a just sold my 1994 Rover 214. The Morris has been back on the road two years now and really enjoying it. I've had the Standard about a year but still haven't finished the recommissioning. All very different from the Saab. Believe it or not I was offered a 96 project a while back didn't have anywhere for it.

Hi Peter,
I hadnt heard of that model Standard, looks cool on Google with suicide doors and distinctive grill. My replacement for the Saab will hopefully be a Riley 1.5 that coincidentally is built on Morris Minor running gear and suspension albeit with a twin carb B series engine,
Nice to chat,
Barry

Sorry Barry just seeing this today. The Riley would be a great car. There's a fair few Wolseley 1500s here some with really low mileage. Haven't seen a Riley for years mind. Good luck with your hunt.

Hey, haven't seen you on here for a while, probably because you don't have a Saab 96, any more, I suppose!
Just wanted to say I plan to come across for the Kilbroney Classic show next year. Already got my hotel room booked in Rostrevor.
maybe see you there. I seem to remember last time you tried to make it, your car overheated on the way, and you had to turn back.

For others reading this, the Kilbroney Classic Car show in Rostervor County Down, is probably the biggest outdoor classic show on these islands. Last time I was there in 2019, there were around 2000 cars there.
Amazing!
