| Does anybody know how to get the gearbox top cover back on? Is there a trick to it? The box is out of the car, still looks very tricky.

| John I'm not a gearbox specialist, but I know a man who is. I'll ask him the morn, and get back to you.

| John My gearbox guru says the following:-
Make sure the g/box is in neutral ie all the bronze selectors lined up with the recesses in line. Place the lid onto one edge of the gearbox casing lilted up so that you can see underneath it and using a torch as you lower it down watch that the dangling arm goes into the lined up selector recesses and that the two swinging arms with the round dowels go into the triangles on on the selectors, then just gently lower the lid down secure it.

| This will be useful for me Andy. I have just acquired a Chris Partington built gearbox from a 96. I'm putting it into my Sonett so that I can have a working freewheel. The Sonett's box has had the freewheel welded up. So because the Sonett gear selector comes out the opposite side I will have to change cover plates. Thanks for the info, I'll let you know if it works! | |

| John No trouble John, we 96ers all help each other out, in order to keep these wonderful machines on the road.
I'm not absolutely certain, but I don't think you can do anything on the internals of the gearbox, with it in the car.

| It is possible to remove gr/box lid with it in car, I did it couple of months back. Biggest problem is getting access to the bolts. Very fiddly. You need a lot of patience. I had a serious gear selection problem using GL5 oil. So it was all a waste of time!
